Default FBI and IRS raid an Escort website. sfredbook.com is now down.

Has anyone heard that the FBI and IRS has closed down an Escort website called Sfredbook.com on the West Coast.

Sounds like the money laundering was the kicker that allowed the feds to go after the site and shut it down.

It's not a far stretch to think site and others are next.

As long as there is not another, higher profile charge like trafficking, child prostitution, or like this case, money laundering, I would thing the feds will continue to focus their limited resources on those kinds of crimes, not "just" an escort site. Those are much bigger fish and far more splashy than busting a hooker board. The racketeering and money laundering especially are fat targets for federal prosecution. Especially after the slap down the courts gave them over the New Mexico board.

Investigations usually take two years and you can bet that Backpage will be hit before this.

Backpage is owned by a large media company with a legal staff and lobbyist.

Remember that Backpage was able to keep operating when Craigslist was forced to pull the exact same advertising.

I'm from SF and MyRedBook is very big in the Bay Area. Besides RB, they targeted few other sites like bigdoggie.net for the past few years. If I'm not mistaken, ASPD was raided too! I'm sure this site and any other sites will be next. Nothing is safe anymore.

I think it's more accurate to say CL pussied out, whereas BP basically said no to the pressure and continues to fight.

CL caved to public outcry, not actual legal action. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/16/bu...list.html?_r=0

BP split off from Village Voice to protect the other assets.

Great article once you move past the political bent of the article

Apparently the owner of J. Blacks feel good lounge got arrested in a sting. There is one in Austin, one in Dallas and I guess one in Houston.
