Hotel Suggestions

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to NYC at the beginning of Feb and have no idea where to stay or what would be a good area.I was told Manhatten or the Meadowlands.But then someone suggested that LI would be a better area.I'm not trying to spend a million $ on a room every day,but don't want to be in a bad area.

I think that no matter where you stay you will have a significant base of customers, whether it be Long Island, Manhattan or New Jersey. And you are coming at a great time of year, because you can secure the lowest hotel rates in January-February.

My personal recommendation would be midtown Manhattan as you would have a large population of people within walking distance to your hotel from their workplace. Plus you want to be close to the sights and be able to enjoy the city in your downtime as well. (??) At this time of year, you can get a 4-star hotel in midtown for $200 or less per night.

Try Priceline.com and select the areas you would prefer; apply a bid for the room and start low and work your way up if they reject you. Do put in the star rating of the hotel class you want. I do 4 stars in Manhatten and usually stay at the Sheraton, Times Square for 125. If you do Secaucus, which is just out of Manhatten you can be in a 3 star Holiday Inn for 60. This works everywhere.
