Default Waco Kid's Weekly College Football Review week4

What is Waco Kid's Weekly College Football Review? It is an ongoing weekly review of all things College Football!!

Each week upcoming games can be discussed and predictions made, name-calling after victories and general all-around college football discussion! Each week will be closed out by the next Monday and a new thread opened for the current college football schedule for each week.

Rules -
"Rules?? We don't need no stinkin’ rules!"
Actually we do.

WKWCFR rule 1
"Lies, damn lies and statistics!"
British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli

If you quote a stat, record, 3rd down conversion rate, an all-time mark or the number of jock straps an 85-man team needs ...
Post it! If you can't post a link to it, it's bogus!
What's valid in the Internet age? Just about anything! Any of the major sports publications, local newspapers, any of the big networks and official school and NCAA sites just to cover the big ones.

WKWCFR rule 2
Predictions must be posted 1 day in advance! If you haven't read the sports page and figgured out who's going to win by the day before ya never will!
Must be time stamped before Midnight the day before game-day, for any weekly games Thur-Sun on the current weekly schedule.
So there you have it, pretty basic! You can post on general topics of your favorite teams regardless of that week's opponent. Just remember WKWCFR rule 1

Not so fast there cowboy! yahoo sports has yer 'boys all the way down to 2nd in total offense! LOL. obviously "I'm a Man" Gundy has some work to do!

Interestingly, Oregon's and Oklahoma St.'s stats are "flipped" in terms of rush vs. pass. Oregon is a run-first team and yer 'boys are .. a bunch of gunslingers! otherwise it is a near dead-heat.

Since i don't really care much for Harbough at Stanford i'll go with Oregon to win the PAC 10. As for the Big 12 the bugeaters look to have an easy path in the North while the South looks like a typical "civil war" what else is new? we'll know more in a few weeks!

19 Miami (FL) 31 Pittsburgh 3

WKCFR rule #3 - NEVER bet on Pitt! Pitt was only down 10-0 at the half, no offense no W. Miami looking more like the U used to.

Friday’s Games

No. 4 TCU at SMU, 8 p.m.

One of these initials school games LOL. I prefer directional schools. Anyway JuneBug is making progress with da ponies but the Frogs are elite and JuneBug gets squashed.

SMU got it closer than I thought. TCU needed 3 quarters before they could put it away.

I am more a TCU fan because of LT but I am also a June Jones fan. Nice to see them compete and hope for another bowl bid this year.

TCU did exactly as expected, talent wins out. Screw style points the game commentators even mentioned it TCU put down an overall solid game. They move on, Go Froggies!

besides any top 25 team usually gets game time for younger players and all coaches will tell you those kids need to play hard too. In general all teams at some point coach for next year. People like Spurrier weren't so much runnin' it up on purpose as simply running the same plays with non-starters just to let them get game time.

my point is there'll be more about "quality wins" and "losses" before the carnage is over and the human polls most of all vary on so-called style points crap. the computers factor it as pure data and it does work out as a fair strength of schedule factor. Boise should have a big plus with schedule strength with their win over Va Tech but they stumbled badly out of the gate. Still, Beamer has done nothing but win in Blacksburg don't surprised if they rebound and win 9 games overall and possibly the ACC.

in the end the dam computers will crunch up the data then the 2/3 of the formula are the beauty padgent polls.

I want a playoff. 16 teams it's the only way to be fair. that's an 11+5 at large. Bottom line you win your conference and you are in. Think "March Madness" on turf.

both TCU and Boise could again run the table only to be paired up in a BCS bowl again but not the title game.

PRICELESS!!!!!

Un-ranked UCLA rises up and beats Texas at home. After last week's debacle in Lubbock where they would have lost with Leach at the helm they showed how poor of a team they have this year.

Bolt fan!!! We called it. UCLA smacked TexS around. I love it. My boys came into Austin and showed why the Pac Ten is no joke. Is it the Pac 12 now??? I called it.

Certainly not a sharp outing fer UT. i said early on this team certainly is no unbeaten-type team, really, given the schedule this year 9-3 is a really good result with growth for later seasons. Think Colt's second year then look at the difference from year 3 on. Starting next year UT has a 2 year window with Gilbert Grape, just like Simms/Applewhite no reason UT can't run the ball better and be sucessful in a basic pro set if that's Gilbert's strength. Where's Ricky and his Heisman when we need him? Oh well i'll take Cedric B right now haha. Jamaal and Selvin available? if i had to call it now i'd sign with The Devil for 9-3 and lose to OU next week.

No. 1 Alabama at No. 10 Arkansas, 3:30 p.m. - winner Alabama
Hogs need great defensive shutdown on Bama's run game AND play sharp on offense to upset Tide.

1 Alabama 24 10 Arkansas 20

This game tells us three things 1) Bama is good but not invincible 2) League games are always the toughest 3) don't throw a lazy pass to end a down. Even if Colt had been a second later no one was going to INT that pass. LOL. Pure QB mistake ended possible upset. Boss Hog had 'em in position to win.

No. 2 Ohio State vs. Eastern Michigan, 3:30 p.m - winner Ohio St.
Should pose no issues for Bucky's, once again I'll watch Pryor's stats

E Michigan 20 2 Ohio St 73

As expected here, Pryor's stats excellent and overall team against lower tier talent. Still don't know if Pryor has any VY in him. if buckys want to run the table Pryor must flat out win one ala VY. At Iowa maybe?

No. 3 Boise State vs. No. 24 Oregon State, 8 p.m. - winner Boise State
Give it to Smurfies at home, possible upset if Oregon St. runs the ball well against Boise St. defense.

24 Oregon St 24 3 Boise St 37

A good game overall. Smurfies defend blue turf. Along with TCU this gives non Big 6 strong wins over inter-league teams. U go Smurfies one up these guys probably could win against anyone.

No. 5 Oregon at Arizona State, 10:30 p.m. - winner Oregon
Ducks are offensive machine, Sun Devils need lights-out d for any chance to win

5 Oregon 42 Arizona St 31

Ducks smilin' and swimmin' solid league win. jeremiah who?? co-fav with Stanford for PAC-10 my bet is Ducks to win trip to Rose.

No. 6 Nebraska vs. South Dakota State, 7 p.m. - winner Nebraska
Bugeaters roll however need to see consistent solid offense at QB this should be a tune-up.

S Dakota St 3 6 Nebraska 17

Bo don't know offense after all. stats tell it - only 15 first downs and 3 turnovers (S D had 2) is a terrible showing against lower tier talent. Bo needs a QB and Offense. Now.

No. 7 Texas vs. UCLA, 3:30 p.m. - winner Texas
Texas run defense gets interesting test, my bet UT is sharp at home on offense Texas rolls.

UCLA 34 7 Texas 12

Ouch. said UT needed to be sharp early or they could fall into a bad matchup and give UCLA credit they needed to run it well and they did.

No. 8 Oklahoma at Cincinnati, 6 p.m. - winner Oklahoma
Not the match-up it was when Kelly coached at Cincy, no match here Sooners roll

8 Oklahoma 31 Cincinnati 29

Bobbo knows a win when he sees one. Sooners get one, Cincy put up good numbers on OU's defense, the unit has talent but may not be solid yet.

No. 9 Florida vs. Kentucky, 7 p.m. - winner Florida
My homey Cats need great game or Fla slow start on offense. just fer homey pride possible upset if UK plays sharp at home

Kentucky 14 9 Florida 48

This was at the Swamp, same results. Gator chop. Florida has Tebow Jr now but Brantley needs to be efficient as the starter. Meyer did say he would get the Tebow package in. If Gators can't go Pro I with Brantley .. Meyer may have a talent mis-match.

No. 11 Wisconsin vs. Austin Peay, Noon - winner Wisconsin
if Badgers don't chew up da Governors at home shame on u cheeseheads!

Austin Peay 3 11 Wisconsin 70

Badgers get easy win on talent. These games are worth it for teams like AP, they do learn from the challenge.

No. 12 South Carolina at No. 17 Auburn, 7:45 p.m. - winner S Carolina
going all in with Steve Superior to win.

12 S Carolina 27 17 Auburn 35

Went all in with Steve Superior. Went all out too. Gene takes one at home.

No. 13 Utah vs. San Jose State, 8 p.m. - winner Utah
Utes roll at home, current longest home win streak and way too much talent

San Jose St 3 13 Utah 56

Utes roll with QB back, this team is solid and playing well. TCU has a real road challenge with this team coming up.

No. 14 Arizona vs. California, 10 p.m. - winner Arizona
time for the other Stoops to show he's not TeddyBear at Cal and take a big W.

California 9 14 Arizona 10

Stoops 2 knows a Win when he gets one too. TeddyBear as usual does not. Now keep winning Stoops 2. Watch for Cal to get "hot" and factor in the PAC 10 race.

No. 15 LSU vs. No. 22 West Virginia, 9 p.m. - winner LSU
Mikey roars but expect a good game, W Va has a shot if they play well to make it interesting.

22 W Virginia 14 15 LSU 20

Good solid inter-league game. Mikey roars at home but W Va's got some game. Stewy could be dark horse Big E winner.

No. 16 Stanford at Notre Dame, 3:30 p.m. - Stanford
ok i'm on the Harbough bandwagon - and i HATE ND

16 Stanford 37 Notre Dame 14

All in on Harbough. Till he loses. Anyone who beats ND is TWK's team of the day. Standford goes to Ducks then USC at home next 2 games. just don't lose both Jimmy.

No. 18 Iowa vs. Ball State, Noon - winner Iowa
If Iowa doesn't shake off loss at home they may have trouble in league games

Ball St 0 18 Iowa 45

Perfect game for Capt. Kirk to shake off a loss, talent rolls for Hawkeys.

No. 20 Southern Cal at Washington State, 3 p.m. - winner USC
Lane Kiffy era needs a sharp outing and dispatch over-matched Cougars

20 USC 50 Wash St 16

Well the Lane Kiffy era's underway after all! Now keep winning, Dude.

No. 21 Michigan vs. Bowling Green, Noon - winner Michigan
RichRod continues to allow lessor teams big points on his D. RichRod needs strong showing

Bowling Grn 21 21 Michigan 65

RichRod gets exactly what he needed with a scare. QB should be fine but near disaster to promising year. RichRod figured second year to plug-in, looks like this year he has the QB to run the show .. my big rap on RichRod - Lloyd Carr had way better defense Dude. And 1 NC.

No. 23 Penn State vs. Temple, 3:30 p.m. - winner Penn St.
U go JoePa. Temple is much improved but not yet ready for JoePa in his house.

Temple 13 23 Penn St 22

Good old east coast football. JoePa gets yet another win in Beaver Stadium. Temple is coming up with coach Golden, this guy should get JoePa's chair IMHO.

No. 25 Michigan State vs. Northern Colorado, Noon - winner Michigan St
tough circumstances with the coach, expect Spartans to win on talent and emotion at home.

N Colorado 7 25 Michigan St 45

Shout out of the day here. This team needed a strong home game and got it. Let's hope Coach D continues to recover.

Sparty wins WCFR team of the week award!
