With the recent string of thread closings, my mind began to wander and wonder whatever becomes of these sometimes classic exchanges.
Since they are closed… they can’t be bumped and brought back to life nor prominence. Seems a shame that some of these gems are destined to fade away for the vast majority of us members. Oh sure…. Some guys like Jack and OCD, guys with seemingly total recall can find these threads in moments…. But the rest of us??? Speaking for myself… I’ll sometimes think….. hmmmm this reminds me of…. And that is the end of it.
So…. I thought…. Wouldn’t it be GREAT if there was a thread that had links to ALL the closed threads with a short descriptive word or phrase???
I started the task by going through the last two months or so of recently closed threads from all of the Upstate forums. That became tiresome very quickly… so I’m hoping that someone here will take the bull by the horns and start archiving some classic closed threads!!
In my searches… it looks like all the mods close their fair share of threads, so I’m not looking to pick on anyone. Just a nice thread that can be added to at anytime (unless it gets closed – haha). It can also be a tool for the mods to have a place to look up previous decisions etc.
I happen to think that this could be a lot of fun. It would be good to have a central location to find closed threads.

Well I'm a hoping that this becomes a sticky as I think it will be helpful!! (Always a chance it could get closed I suppose).... but now that you have responded.... there is at least a sense that SOME might be interested!! We'll see....

I may at times come close to the line.... step on the line.... put a toe over the line.... and even put my entire foot draped in a rollerblade so far over the line that Nik Wallenda might not recover......
But I have never made a post that was insincere.

I think you may be surprised at how many would find a one stop thread to research closed threads to be helpful, informative and even entertaining...... Step back... take a look and analyze the information and the intent.... I believe it is sticky worthy. You are welcome of course to your own opinion.

It may actually be a helpful tool as an example at times of what not to do.

Perhaps it'd be helpful as well to number the entries for future reference? You could then say "Look up number 2 and you'll see...." of course it likely be just as easy to post a link.

Numbering could be handy tho just to keep count of closings? It could also turn into an odd competition I suppose. "Watch this! I'm gonna be #5,348!" Perhaps an odd badge of honor? "I was banned for 6 months for #10,000!"

Is there a way to type in "closed threads" or something similar and be shown a list of links that includes closed threads.... and closed threads only? That would be a great feature.... but I don't think it's possible.

Besides.... I think if people post their favorite closed thread links here, much could be gleaned from the information.
If you have a better idea.... I'm all ears as it were.

But in all honesty, I think a sticky would be a great idea. Most of the threads that beome closed are somewhat entertaining... and for the most part, they do have important info somewhere in them.
