Default Democracy, Are We Not?

We are not. At least that is not how we were established.

"There is no maxim in my opinion which is more liable to be misapplied, and which therefore needs elucidation than the current one that the interest of the majority is the political standard of right and wrong.... In fact it is only reestablishing under another name and a more specious form, force as the measure of right."

~ James Madison, Letter to James Monroe, 1786

why not quote the Bible, Whiny? or the Code of Hammurabi?

what's your point? That you've got a year's subscription to Bartletts book of quotes?

How about a great quote about democracy, freedom and the fucking constitution by someone post, lets see, 1900?

"there once was a man from Nantucket"

Tell me how that isn't relevant today, Whiny bitch?

Assup doesn't rattle. He's funny as hell! All that stupidity wrapped up in an overinflated ego. Priceless!

If you can't answer the question, Assup, just say so.

Oh, and here's another one for you. Why does the following lack relevance for today?

It just seems crazy that fhe public money, controlled by the Federal Gubernment can be printed without the Public consent. The goubernment just keeps printing more money without anything to back it. Not gonna be pretty when it is worthless.

Get back to me in about 3-1/2 years when O'Blunder is done with his "fundamental change" agenda. If he gets his way, we will not look anything like what the Founders intended.

The government of the founding fathers has been turned upside down. The founders believed that the House (the people's house) was going to run the country and be tempered by the slower moving Senate. The President was more figurehead most of the time. The only time the President became truly vital was in wartime hence the title Commander in Chief. The President did have a check on the power of the Congress with a veto but it was far from impossible for a veto to be overturned. Everything goes back to the Congress. In the days of the founders presidential candidates didn't even run for office. They were nominated by supporters and usually came from the ranks of the House or Senate, though it was not required and they were elected by the House and Senate. There was no direct democracy. The founders thought that direct democracy was nothing more than mob rule.
