Lightbulb #BlackHistoryMonth

Yay! Black History Month is here. The time of year to celebrate the sometimes overlooked or forgotten sacrifices, inventions, or gifts Black people have contributed to American culture and society. I figured some of y'all could tolerate celebrating, at least if there was a little humor involved.. Here is one of my favorites from Funny or Die's Drunk History series featuring Don Cheadle as Frederick Douglass, Will Ferrell as Abraham Lincoln, and Zooey Deschanel as Mary Todd Lincoln:

I love listening to "Snap Judgement" on my local NPR station. The host is incredible.

Moth.org is also a favorite. Podcasts on their website and on KERA.org listen live Saturday night at 10 pm. It's called The Moth radio hour. Incredible stuff!

Arrow "Unpublished Black History"

I stumbled across this series the New York Times will be doing for the duration of February. Everyday, they'll be releasing previously unpublished images from their archives spanning back several decades with accompanying write-ups.

Default "Control" 30th Anniversary

Janet Jackson (Ms. Jackson if you're nasty! ) has had an amazing career. She is currently embarking on her Unbreakable world tour in support of her most recent album with the same name. Thirty years ago on February 4, 1986, her third studio album Control, a definitive classic, was released to the world.

Arrow Misty Copeland: Black history in the making

Misty Copeland is a rising star who is making history in the ballet world and beyond. She became the first African American woman to be promoted to principal ballerina at American Ballet Theatre on June 30th of last year. Accomplishing this feat is especially noteworthy as the ABT has been in existence since 1937. Last year, she also made it onto the TIME 100 list. She is captured below in a series of breathtaking photographs taken by Deborah Ory and Ken Browar for the March issue of Harper's Bazaar as she flawlessly recreates poses from Edgar Degas' 19th century paintings and sculptures of dancers at the Paris Opéra Ballet... all while slaying in high fashion designer pieces by Carolina Herrera, Alexander McQueen, and many more.
