When I worked as an addictions counselor one of my clients nearly bled to death following a spontaneous incomplete abortion. Good old Saint Francis in Topeka sent her home without doing a D&C because of their beliefs about abortion, never mind the fact that it was not an elective abortion. They told her not to worry, the fetus would eventually pass on its own. But it didn't, a portion became lodged in her uterus causing her to hemorrhage. I had sent her to her room to lay down, and hours went by before one of her roommates realized she wasn't simply sleeping, but had passed out due to blood loss.

Issues like this do not take place in a political vacuum. They have real consequences in the real world, and when women's basic health options are limited, their health is put at risk. Sure, a woman can go to a different pharmacy in most cases, but there will always be exceptions when it does matter, as was the case in 2009 when a rape victim was arrested on a juvenile warrant, was held for two days, and denied the morning after pill by a jail worker.

The simple fact is, your right to religious freedom does not give you the right to deny anyone access to legitimate health care needs. If a pharmacist can't handle that, McDonald's is always hiring.

If a pharmacy chose not to sell birth control period, fine. This bill in theory makes it allowable for them to pick and choose who they sell birth control too. It would be like if the pharmacy said he wouldn't sell you viagra because obviously no woman would sleep with you without you paying her and he doesn't agree with prostitution so no viagra for you.

SO you walk into a Burger King, you ask for a Whopper. It's a big seller at Burger King. (Kind of like birth control at a pharmacy). The kid in the goofy BK uniform says, "Sorry man, I don't WANT to sell you this Whopper, it offends me because I'm required to sell them here at Burger King."
So you just shrug and say, "Cool man, I'll just go search out another Burger King and hopefully get a Whopper."

I find it rich that the women who constantly and loudly declare "It's my business and I can refuse service to anyone I feel like" are the ones who would prefer to deny the same freedom to other businesses. If this is a big concern, you could call a few drugstores and find out if this is an issue before bringing the scrip in - or again, just take the scrip with you.

And Stacy - you know I love you and you know I respect you - BUT we both also know that Stormont-Vail is right across the street from St. Francis. Now personally I wouldn't even take someone I didn't like to St. Francis, but that's my own preference.

I'd also point out that this bill probably wouldn't even exist were it not for ObamaCare or libs trotting out that silly Sandra Fluke bitch.

I don't refuse service to many people. And when I do, it's not because of an idea, a moral or a theory It's due to legitimate reasons. The way I run my business has NOTHING to do with the way a pharmacist does business/fills scripts. Zip, zilch, nada. I don't understand why people keep trying to compare the 2 when they're obviously completely different.
Someone refusing to sell me an item in a store that the store HAS IN STOCK because someone has a "moral problem" with it is unacceptable to me. And I probably wouldn't go to another store. I would demand that the pharmacist fetch me someone who can do their job properly.
