Back to baseball. Keller pitched a gem last night. Complete game shut out on 103 pitches. His last game was a gem too but Castro blew it with an error. It’s seems like Keller is turning into the Ace that they thought he’d be. And yes, they are in contract negotiations with him. And you can bet it will be north of Reynolds 108 million

Back to baseball. The Bucs brought up a AAA SS to replace Castro at short. He had a hit last night. Ortiz is also here. He’s a beast. The Pirates have depth in the minors and are bringing them up faster than prior years.

Another article about the owner of the buccos.

ROBERT “BOTTOM-LINE BOB" NUTTING – PITTSBURGH PIRATES

A very strong case can be made that Bottom-Line Bob is not only the worst owner in MLB but the worst owner in sports.

In January of 2007, Robert Nutting became the principal owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Under his leadership, the team has only made the playoffs in three seasons. Pirates fans have unfortunately seen their team on the wrong side of most MLB rankings of worst trades in recent MLB history.

The team has received very little production in the returns of trades including Gerrit Cole, Joe Musgrove, Jameson Taillon, Starling Marte and Andrew McCutchen. Meanwhile, when the team “buy" in a trade, they sent talented prospects Tyler Glasnow, Shane Baz and Austin Meadows in the notorious Chris Archer trade. As a result, the MLBPA accused the team of salary dumps and failing to field a competitive team.

Most recently, before the 2022 season, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette released findings that team salary was tied directly to ticket and concession sales and that any money from revenue sharing and TV contracts would be kept by ownership as profit.

Glad the Buccos are doing well this year. I always enjoy going to a game for the atmosphere, crowd and beautiful stadium. That fact that they are in contention makes it all the more sweet.

Look Sparky, the thread is about the 2023 Pirates, not Nutting. If you want to continue your useless Jihad on Nutting start a thread. Have at it.

... Sorry there, mate.

Reckon the last thing I might wanna do is speak
in defence of Charley3, of all people... BUT -

this thread is about the Pirates baseballers
and the team, correct?

Surely gonna be kinda difficult to discuss the
Pirates and not Bob Nutting. ..
Just sayin'

But on THAT note - the lads Nutting hired to
manage to team have done a good job to this point.

The teams looks no worse than any other side
- and a bit better than a great number of others.

It’s about the Pirates and 2023 season. And their performance on the field. Period.

It's Nutting's team. No quarter was given to the Rooneys or Tomlin in the Steelers thread, so Nutting's fair game.

Nutting's management is specifically why so few folks have any faith in this team despite the promise they show at the moment.

... As I mentioned already - the Pirates have money to spend.
They seem to have acquired some talented lower-tier lads
who seem to be able to play at this level.

And the team has the money to add more talent as the
season-meet progresses.

As Hema stated - it's great to see the crackerjack start
and the club just continuing ahead... Also like seeing
the olde-time logo being used and the almost revival
of the Pirates fanbase...

All they're missing is that old "Gunner" fellow to
do announcements and promote the team...

Tomlins the coach, his game decisions are fair game, just as Shelty’s. Rooney isn’t really discussed in threads concerning their play during the season.

Ortiz on the mound tonight, another young phenom. He throws a 100mph slider. He’s nasty.

You don’t get to start a thread and make your rules. You don’t like it that someone disagrees with you? Toughen up.
Any discussion in this town about the Pirates is going to include discussion about the worst owner in Pittsburgh sports history. He’s laughing at this town all the way to the bank. Most intelligent sports fans know that.

Got it….Sparky

... No... It's Bambino's thread. He should get to
set the tone and decide what the thread is about.

You don't need to participate - or even choose to
read the thread... America is STILL almost a free country,
from what they say.

Just as you - or I - can surely start our-own separate
threads and thus discuss whatever we fancy.
