Low carb dieters are likely familiar with the "whoosh," a sudden loss in weight on the scale after an apparent plateau. I've also noticed that right before this happens, I will frequently reach a new low, then be disappointed the next day as I increase back to close to where I was the day before the new low. Then a short time later I get the coveted whoosh. If this graphic is accurate I'd say that means I've lost some fat and that shows up on the scale temporarily, then the scale goes back up as water refills the fat cells temporarily until released.

On another note, as of today I need a new belt. That's a good thing! I always try not to confuse progress with achievement of goals, but it's nice to have physical confirmation jay what I'm doing is working.
Interesting thing I learned recently: Water is slightly heavier than fat (1.0g / ml for water vs. 0.94g / ml for fat). So when the cell fills back up with water after surrendering some fat, it will actually be a bit heavier until it fully collapses and releases the water and remaining fat. That explains some things, like how you can actually sometimes gain a bit of weight on the scale even after following your plan perfectly. It might actually be good news - some fat has been lost, some water temporarily gained. Weight loss on the scale and fat loss don't happen at the same time.

They share that in my HCG group a lot. I drink about a gallon of lemon water a day

Had a normal day yesterday (no fasting, also more carbs than I usually eat though still less than 100g). I knew it would show up on the scale today as water weight, and it did. 2 pounds. It know it seems rather discouraging in the moment when that happens but I think it's important to remember that fat loss and weight loss on the scale aren't the same thing. Fat loss will eventually show up on the scale but that quick of a reaction, either lost or gained, is mostly water. I am back on my program and it will be gone in a day or two.

Actually the "off" day was intentional because the scale hadn't moved much for me in a few days and I started to suspect that I'm not getting enough calories on OMAD (one meal a day) and might have inadvertently lowered my BMR (basal metabolic rate). So the "cheat" day was an attempt to hit the reset button even though I was aware it would give me a
short term increase on the scale. I may need to look at changing to a different fasting plan - maybe every other day or back to 16:8 daily if it looks like not getting enough calories on OMAD is the culprit.

Sure enough, after a one day gain on the scale, I'm back down to my previous low weight after hovering around 2 lbs above that for almost a week. It's counterintuitive, but sometimes eating more for a limited time can hit the reset button on slow progress, it seems.

I laid off my regiment and allowed carbs for 3 days. Now I am back at it. Only gained 2 lbs during that time so it was ok to eat carbs and have a few days of ice cream. Rewards for my gains, now back on it again

I'm with you, I took off for a weekend trip and haven't gotten back on the wagon yet. Pretty sure I gained more than 2. Tomorrow I'm back on plan for sure.

Sweet!

I hit "pause" on my plan three weeks ago for a weekend trip and never hit "play" again and have put a few pounds back on. Restarting as of tonight.

Looking good Miss Ginger! I've tried the stairmaster at my gym, and it kicks my ass... guess I'll stick with the treadmill and elliptical.
