It's not genocide to sterilize a group of unwanted people so they can't reproduce.

Taking them back to Africa as Lincoln advocated for years was a horrible cruelty because they only preyed on each other once they got there. The histories of Liberia and Haiti proved that. Continuing to make more babies all of which would live in slavery would also be cruel. And freeing them turned out to be a totally disasterous option.

The most humane choice would have been to make no more slaves, and take care of the remaining ones humanly until they passed away.

That was the humane choice.
