By the same token, giving Nixon credit for taking us to the Moon is like giving GW credit for taking out Saddam!

I could not have said it better myself.
If I have said it once, I have said it ten thousand times. GW lost his focus upon the perpetrators of 9/11!
And yes, it still pisses me off!

Name one that has a factual basis, as opposed to media speculation, which I mean by that:
Reliable intelligence sources identifying his presence at a sufficiently specific location for a sufficient period of time to orchestrate an operation to assure his capture or death.
[FYI: Some Afghan goat herder reporting that he saw a tall man walking down a mountain road yesterday, don't cut it!]
When "everyone" looks at the facts, this "hit" was in the making since 2007.
If it makes one "feel better" blame Bush for not getting OBL/UBL .... that still will not get your man re-elected in 2012.
As for a potential failure, there have been "raids" that did not get results, and there always will be .... whether "we" hear about them or not is another matter ... probably "we" should not, simply because it makes the next one more difficult .... especially the manner in which our media dissects every moment and speculates on the details.
I give the President credit for giving the "greenlight" .... he didn't make the light, he didn't turn on the lights, he didn't set the direction of travel, and he damn sure didn't drive the ride. He said: "Do it"! And I give him credit for NOT SAYING: "Don't do it."

+1 ....
.... and the image does not indicate he was shot up close.
IMO the pundits/critics who want to dissect and critique this operation have never been "in the box" (as John says) ... and never would be.
And for those on here who would like to make this another "political football" or Bush-Bashing session ...

U.S. Was Foiled Multiple Times in Efforts To Capture Bin Laden or Have Him Killed
“Sudan's Offer to Arrest Militant Fell Through After Saudis Said No
By Barton Gellman
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, October 3, 2001; Page A01
"The government of Sudan, employing a back channel direct from its president to the Central Intelligence Agency, offered in the early spring of 1996 to arrest Osama bin Laden and place him in Saudi custody, according to officials and former officials in all three countries."

My initial reaction to his final arrangements was:
We finally got to waterboard the bastard!

Three thoughts on the latest rounds of comments:
1. Ike's right. We did loose focus on the enemy when W decided to start a war for his personal reasons with Iraq.
2. Who cares if he was armed or not. I couldn't care less if he was wearing pink panties when he was shot.
3. The picture floating around on the internets is has been reported as a fake.

1. "W" didn't start a "war" ... he inherited one with a no fly zone, and all.
There was merely a "cease fire" agreement under Bush I. Please try not to rewrite history in order to bash a former President....whoever it might be.
2. Who is to say he was not armed BEFORE the shot was fired?
It wasn't long ago that a man was stopped on 59 by HPD and came out of his vehicle at a traffic stop with a can opener (apparently ... one was found on the pavement) and there were roughly 50 shell casings recovered at the scene.
If you make a "furtive movement" with or without a weapon in your hands when someone is raiding your house just assume you are going to die.
3. Which photo, and who said it was a fake?
IMO, not releasing at least one photo (officially) is a mistake.
But OB has a hard time releasing Official Documents, these days....
... it will take him a few years to "get 'er done"!

i really could care less if they do release one but i honestly don't see the point and what the mistake would be if they didn't...
conspiracy theorists no matter what will always theorize, if you dont release one, they will say he isnt dead.. if they do release one, they will say it's doctored... people looking for some sort of catharsis with proof by a photo arent going to find it either way.
plus i tread on the side of caution and think of the reaction from the middle east from those who are already upset at bin laden's death... and how they would react to the media basically parading and plastering his corpse all over the world... they've done much worse for much less...
he's dead that's all that matters

1. Some will care,
2. The debate will go on regarding the "procedural" issue,
3. The "mistake" is a continuing dialogue that will feed the discussion.
Exactly who in the Middle East is going to attack us if we do?
His followers and admirers?
It ain't like we're propping him up in a box down by the saloon to stink up the place.
It's just like his "long form" birth certificate ... why let the discussion run on and on ... just show it, and move on to something worthwhile...
... like staying focused on killing the rest of the sleezy bastards that blow up women and children.

Members of the house/senate intelligence committees were shown photos early on, and are now being told they cannot see them .... again?
This is high schoolish.
Ok, don't show them to me, you, and the press ... but at least allow our duly elected representatives to see what ever they wish to see in the way of video and stills to satisfy their responsibilities to our "representative form of government."
This guy would shit on his own birthday cake.

While TDL made a good analogy, I found this one a little more to the point.

What ever happened to "transparency"? And the right to ask for proof without being branded some type of "wacko?"
Its not just people in America want some type of confirmation he's dead, its people all over the world. Tell some guy in the Sudan that the "DNA matched'? He's going to ask "what's DNA?" Nah, they need to release pics and made the body available for independent corroboration before they tossed him overboard. To blame their mistake on "Conspiracy Theorists" is an attempt to cover up their short sightedness. Especially after so many of the first reports from the administration were wrong (OBL using a woman as a shield, OBL had a gun and tried to fight it out).
Yes, I believe OBL is dead.
Also, I think assassinating OBL pissed off his sympathizers enough. They don't give a shit about the photo.
Here's what else I believe: Those photos will mysteriously be "leaked" around late Oct of 2012!

This is true. After all the dude is a politician.
Someone said on the radio this morning....if Bush had gotten UBL. We would have already seen Bush's face being carved on Mount Rushmore.
Too funny!
