. . . .

But after reading then re-reading 69er's post, everyone needs to take a deep breath and understand rrrabit didn't attack Jules. He made fun of and was disgusted by a prostitute's choice of ink on her boob.
Yes, I read it the same way, but let's add two points:

1) Many people make public declarations here of what they don't like. (You can say the same about public declarations of what they like, but those don't tend to hurt feelings.) Tattoos, weight, age, breast size (and natural versus enhanced), etc. Those statements have much value or utility only to the extent that: (a) it's reflective of a significant component of the population (who cares what one single guy out of thousands of P4P clients likes or doesn't like?); and (b) it's informative, e.g., in the case, letting ladies considering tattoos know that many clients will not like that. This particular discussion certainly qualified for (a), but as for (b), how many ladies don't already realize that???? You're not telling them anything they don't already know.

Nothing intrinsically wrong with statements that don't add much value/utility, but when they don't, it's worth considering:

2) How it's expressed. Is there any reason that a strong dislike of tattoos can't be expressed in a less rude way? Are there that many members here who don't know how to express the idea forcefully but politely? Or express it somewhere it is less likely to be seen by people likely to be offended? Also, as a general matter, being polite usually includes being very careful about using particular people as examples.

I'm not suggesting that he be banned or anything like thatj at least based on that initial post. But what's wrong with reminding people that we would appreciate more politeness and common courtesy? You can still express disagreement or even negative feelings, but give some thought to how you're doing it. It lessens the friction of day-to-day interaction and helps maintain a more civilized society. And, as long as not carried too far, that's a good thing in the opinion of many.

OK chev did a good job with this one. Here's what I was thinking to add.

LL I totally get what 69 said and agree with some of it. He didn't come out and berate her like I've seen happen, but looking through the window on this one, the comment was extremely hurtful and he knew it was a real person. You can't say a part of a person's body made you want to puke. This is a perfect example of "take it to the locker room." I should clarify I'm not telling anyone to not post what they think. I'm telling you there's a better way to do it/right place.

if i loose a client because of my ink he is not a client i would want to see anyway!

i go to nice restaurants with my clients and personal friends all the time this is 2011 not 1979!! i have never been refused service or treated differently because of my tattoos, as a matter of fact i am gettin lots more work done. if you dont like it you can fuck off and i mean that in the nicest way possible i know i can not please everybody and i am okay with that!

you say it was not an attack i know otherwise he did not have my permission to use me as an example in his rant point blank period!

certain people know how i feel about them on this board, why they continue to type my name and spew their smart ass remarks i dont know. i guess some people have nothing better to do than to be a vigilante on message boards... lol whatever makes the days go by i guess. I think its also funny when these people saw me more than once back in the cl days....

I, too, read the Austin thread and came away with the following:

1. Jules - Jules was awesome in how she handled the whole situation. I don't think your responses could have been any better.

2. The Company You Keep - When I see people such as Kayla, Reese, Ze, etc, taking a side then I know I don't want to be on the other one! Seriously, look at the people that had (and have) Jules' back and their reputations and know that she is in good company. The OP dug his own grave, IMHO.

3. Bullies and Bike Racks - Just goes to show you that not all bullies grow out of it....they just move to the Internet. I could care less about people saying this isn't about Jules. The OP could have done what zillion others have done - just start a thread talking about his dislike for tats. No need to start showing "Exhibit A". This isn't rocket science and we can all figure out what he's talking about without posting examples. In short, it was about Jules because he made it so.

Jules, you have a LOT of people that think you are gorgeous and the way you handled yourself just shows your class and intelligence. You deserve a very heart-felt "well done" for your responses.

good comments from both sides.
best one unsaid is "treat others & speak about others as you would want them to treat you and speak about you."

words carry a lot of impact, whether or we intend for them to.
and tho the listener has to take some responsibility for how they react, the speaker has to some full responsibility for saying those words.

so, take is easy on each other, have fun, laugh, play, has deliteful sex, go wild and crazy.

and paraphrasing what pistol man's sigline says...
"Remember, respect and postivity will get you more than you ever thought possible."

That's a variation of what we commonly call The Golden Rule: We should treat others as we would want to be treated. Reformulated to be broader:

"Treat all persons, including yourself, as ends, not as means."

(Another formulation is: "Always act to treat humanity, whether in yourself or in others, as an end in itself, never merely as a means." This is an English translation of the German philosopher Immanuel Kant's second maxim of his categorical imperative. What Kant means by this is that a rational being should not be used as a means to another person's happiness; if we use another person as a means to our ends then we have removed that person's autonomy.)

In my view, if there is one true moral imperative, it is this. Those who believe they can be rude to others because they're not responsible for the feelings of others are, in effect, saying there is no commonality among people, and it's "every man for himself," so to speak. That is contrary to basic American values, in my view, and harkens back to those dark places where most of our ancestors came from.

In an advanced, democratic society like the U.S., each of us impliedly consents to be responsible for what happens to others in our society. That's the very core nature of a democracy. It's like what Ben Franklin said as he signed the Declaration of Independence: "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

In a way, this board is a microcosm of this value, this idea that we are stronger by emphasizing cooperation and commonality rather than us each running as a lone wolf. Insults and bickering fragments our little society. By always being respectful to others, we create common bonds that get us what we want -- laid or paid -- and the bonds help to protect us against those outsiders who wish to do us harm.

So don't accept it when somebody says they can say or do whatever they want because they're not responsible for anyone else. Tell such a person they don't belong in America. They belong in some Third World hell-hole where there is no sense of community and only the individual has an identity.

I beg to differ but we do NOT live in a Democracy.

We live in a Republic where we elect others to make decisions for us.

Can you imagine how unruly and truly unjust life in the US would be if everything was majority rule that a Democracy dictates?

Even the legal system functions as a republic because we ELECT judges to sit and rule over cases and we have set up a system of "representative juries" made up of 12 people to render guilt or innocent decisions for a trial. Can you imagine if every legal matter needed to have a true democratic vote before any decision is made? Mob rule?

Heck, even this board is not a democracy. There are appointed leaders who maintain order and attempt to discipline as needed.

<off my soapbox>

With regard to the tit-tat thread in Austin, the appointed Austin staff closed that thread because it was hijacked and fell into mob rule where name calling by the provider lynch mob was running out of control.

Oh, stop quibbling, Laz. I didn't say Americans or ECCIE members are in a pure democracy, where we all go down to a giant town hall and cast paper ballots on every issue. Stop burning straw men, amigo. Hell, if ECCIE was a pure democracy, there'd probably be a referendum in which the members would vote overwhelmingly to boot your old, shriveled ass off the board. Haha.

One thing I forgot to say before: What's up with guys calling our sisters here "whores"? WERE YOU RAISED IN A BARN? DO YOU HAVE NOTHING BUT CA-CA BETWEEN YOUR EARS? It's NOT funny. It's NOT cute. It does NOT show us your macho, devil-may-care, tough biker side. We all know that guys who assume that persona here usually turn out to be pasty-faced, milquetoast, IT nerds and accountants anyway. SO STOP CALLING THE GIRLS HERE "WHORES." IT'S RUDE!

Besides, using trite language is boring. Think of all the other words you can use to describe our soft little playthings here, like:

*Sporting girl
*Nasty little scamp
*Fine, fine, orgasm-inducer
*Sexy little strumpet
*Lewd little salami warmer

Ummm....The OP called himself a shriveled up old idiot. LOL

I just crack up when you guys get all pissy when we stand up for each other, ourselves or hell, even the other gentlemen here. I think most of us around here actually give a damn about each other. Trivial subject to you, maybe...but not to the majority, obviously.
