Compromise is the art of getting what you need while allowing the other side to feel they have accomplished something for themselves.

Very few things are necessary to have at 100%. Many compromises do not affect the most important aspects of the goal.

WWII ended as soon as the Allies agreed to the "compromise" of not taking down the Japanese emperor. That "compromise" saved countless lives, ended much of the suffering, and did not harm any of the Allies' goals. In fact it probably helped overall.
