You've brought this up twice. Other than the hospital taking Medicaid/Medicare money which many public hospitals are basically forced to do, how is a resident taking M/M money?

BTW, I had one doctor working for me in IT. Said he converted over to IT because he could make $100K as a programmer instead of the $32K he was being paid as a resident. After the Internet bubble burst, he went to finish his residency and is now a doctor. He was likely a better programmer than a doctor because frankly he thought your average human was stupid and contemptible. So yes some doctors have options other than practicing medicine.

Funds for resident salaries are appropriated from Medicare. Do some research on Graduate Medical Education.

Medicare/GME also funds the staff/facilities at these training hospitals.

Liken it to baseball:

Medicare pays the AA ballpayer's salary, pays for the stadium, pays for the uniforms and grounds crew, lights, team manager... all so the ballplayer can hone his craft and be a major leaguer someday.

And then cry 85% of us are going to quit because of government involvement.

Thats pretty much it. The only other thing I'll add is Obama like Bush is a Puppet and work for the financiers of Wall Street. Now as far as Health Care under a puppet regime, it will be controlled by the Government and Doctors will be forced to practice under close guidelines which may adversly affect their decisions.

The problems with health care long outdate the current blather over "Obamacare." The problem is that the United States health care system has been upside down for decades. While the rest of the world was developing methods to care for people, our radiologists, anesthesiologists and other sub specialists were trading in their 5 series BMW for a 7. (These subspecialists have been the loudest opponents of virtually every health care reform since the 60s).

Like social security, Medicare was something that most people felt they had coming because they'd spent their lives paying into the system. Medicaid was for the poor.

It wasn't until the 1980s that US health care took a step in any direction. The insurance companies took control and through HMOs and other "managed care" models began dictating how doctors were allowed to treat patients. They used Medicare as the baseline and then paid docs as much as 30% less than that.

(NOTE: your report, COG, is bullshit from a bullshit organization that's part of the Tea Party coalition.)

Doctors have been threatening to take new Medicare patients ever since the dawn of HMOs. Doctors that practice in underserved areas don't see much more than Medicaid patients (or pro bono cases in the ER). They get 20-30% of their costs covered, if at all. They're not quitting medicine. They're going to work for corporations and hospitals.

A lot of docs, particularly older ones, won't take on new patients who aren't private pay.

The med students I talk to overwhelmingly believe they'll wind up employees of a hospital system or public health organization. Even those at A&M.

What do they think about the Affordable Care Act? Those who aren't looking to trade up to a BMW 700 series are pretty tickled about it because they're going to start getting paid again. Older ones are nervous about the cost of implementing electronic health records but understand that it's the only way to cut down waste. They're just not going to make a long-term investment when their careers are nearly over. Those who have embraced electronic health records are back in the black.

To base a discussion on this Tea Bagger bullshit study is beyond simplistic. It's ludicrous.

But I'm sure there's a lot more where that came from...

Just ask him. You need medication anyway, so just ask him while you're there.

Again, you quote a bullshit report promoted by Fox. My doctor isn't going anywhere.

However, if Texas doesn't expand Medicaid under PPACA, then tens of thousands more Texans in rural and historically undeserved areas, like the border region, will be without doctors because they WILL leave. Not because of the new law but because Texas refuses to comply with it.

You guys are so wrapped up in the TeaBag tantrum that you haven't got a clue WTF is going on here.

Ask YOUR doctor.

Politics aside . Wether it's the AHCA or something else...
Do we all agree that the current system is shit ?

Do we all agree that some kind of reform is necessary?

Wouldn't we like to see a healthier , more productive population?

Shouldn't we help to elevate everyone in society through proper
Education and preventative health care? Not saying how to fund.. Just in ideological terms,
Wouldn't this improve life for everyone?

What kind of bullshit is this? Improve life for everyone?

If you don't have people worse off than you, how do you mark your own progress?

This is just the Line Law in action.
You can be at the end of a 2 mile long line. You are the last person in line.
And the second someone gets in line behind you you are not the last person anymore.

The weight of the world is off your shoulders.

I respectfully disagree. Some would judge success in life measured by
Happiness and self worth. I don't have to feel or be superior to consider myself a success.

If you do, that's your personality make up. If you derive real satisfaction in your life . ... Awesome.

I feel like not being concerned for the population at large is short sighted.
Thinking very very long term.... Wouldn't it benifit us as a human race to be
healthier and more educated?

A measure of a man is not how big his wallet is .. But rather how big his heart is.

Good luck in all your endeavors.

If politics were taken out of the equation and we examine
The fundamentals behind health care reform, I believe most all of us
On this board would agree that in principle reform is a good thing .
COG, Munch, dos perros, joe blow aren't bad people who are out to sabotage
The country, neither are the likes of Cj, big tex ,Louie and others like myself.
I think we all want what is best for this nation. We just all have starkly differing
views on how to get it done. I disagree with the tea naggers and the GOP on their point of view... But I still respect their right to HAVE a view. I sincerely
pray that we don't have to suffer through mitt. If the r-wingers
think he's any better than what we currently have.....it's my belief that they would be dead wrong . My belief.

I for one ,would appreciate more substantive discussion on this board.
The apathy and disrespect displayed by some of the more prolific posters is disheartening . We can do better. We deserve better.

Cheers .
