Brock Osweiler
G Comp Att Pct Yds Avg TD Int Rate
8 170 275 61.8 1,967 7.2 10 6 86.4

Blaine Gabbert
8 178 282 63.1 2,031 7.2 10 7 86.2

Brian Hoyer
11 224 369 60.7 2,606 7.1 19 7 91.4

This is why I am a little hesitant on Brock. Last year he was really no better than Blaine Gabbert on a worse 49er team. Is he really any better than Hoyer?

BL, if I am not mistaken the 2015 NFL season was Brock's 1st year as a starter. Am I correct?

Why don't you do a comparison between Peyton Manning's 1st year as a starter (1998) and Brock's first year as a starter (2015)?

The 1st year stats were as follows:

Peyton Manning
(G) 16
(Comp) 326
(Att) 575
(Pct) 56.7
(Yards) 3739
(Avg) 6.5
(TD) 26
(Int) 28
(Rate) 71.2

Brock Osweiler
(G) 8
(Comp) 170
(Att) 275
(Pct) 61.8
(Yards) 1,967
(Avg) 7.2
(TD) 10
(Int) 6
Rate 86.4

Once you have completed the 1st year comparisons, let us know the results.

BTW, is there anything else that relates to Brock that you can find to shat upon?

BL, perhaps you would prefer to compare Tom Brady's 1st year stats as an NFL starter to Brock's.

Tom Brady
(G) 15
(Comp) 264
(Att) 413
(Pct) 63.9
(Yds) 2843
(Avg) 6.9
(TD) 18
(Int) 12
(QB Rate) 86.5

Brock Osweiler
(G) 8
(Comp) 170
(Att) 275
(Pct) 61.8
(Yards) 1,967
(Avg) 7.2
(TD) 10
(Int) 6
(QB Rate) 86.4

BL, I am not trying to make a ridiculous argument that Brock is destined to one day be a Manning or Brady style HOF QB in the NFL. Far from it! There are a number of factors (not the least of which would be injuries) that may or may not come into play. But for you to try to cherry pick stats and then make a feeble claim that Brock is nothing more than another Gabbert or Hoyer is as ridiculous as you trying to cherry pick the stats presented in the last two posts and make the claim that Brock will one day be another Manning or Brady.

At this moment, none of us know how good or bad Brock will be 10-12 years from now. Or even if he will still be in the NFL. But we will all have a much better idea in a few years!

What we do know is that you will always figure out a way to shat in the Texans mess-kit!

Give it a friggin' rest!

I will gladly take my chances with Brock's potential for upside as opposed to what we have previously received from Hoyer. I do not believe that Hoyer could possibly be any better in 2016 than he was in 2015.

As I said a few posts back, if Brock doesn't turn into the Texans QB of the future, he will probably be gone along with both Rick and BoB.

Vegas thinks Brock is better.
Odds on the Texans winning the Super bowl dropped from 40:1 the day after the Super Bowl to 20:1 the day after they signed Brock. Only 7 teams are more highly favored for next year.

Interestingly, the odds on Denver returning went from 30:1 the day after the super bowl to 15:1 the day after Manning announced his retirement. It's now 14:1 with Brock gone. So oddsmakers don't really care who the Denver QB is they just felt like Manning sticking around was not going to be good for the team.

Two things to note about that though is I don't think a #1 defense has ever repeated even getting to the SB after winning it and Wade's defenses always decline in the second year. 14:1 odds is a suckers bet IMO.

Denver had very good receivers and a decent oline. Maybe not as good as 2 years ago but better than SF and HOU.

I'll agree with you on good receivers but the Denver O-line was ranked 20th, 4 spots behind Houston's O-line, by Pro Football Focus at the end of the year.

They struggled about as much as the Texans' did at finding a combination that worked except it wasn't as much about injuries as it was about just having decent players.

I am thinking The Texans will concentrate on offense early in this years draft. My personal preference would be that the Texans select Corey Coleman with their first pick. I watched him play several times last year and he is a beast! I believe he would be a great complement to Hopkins on the other side of the ball. If Coleman is already gone, perhaps Laquon Treadwell will slide to #22. IMHO, they need a reliable #2 receiver, to take pressure off of DHop.

With the Texans 2nd pick, I am hoping Hunter Henry from Arkansas will be available. If not, I believe it would be a reach to take another TE with their 2nd pick. If Henry is not available, perhaps they will take the best OL on the board and then a TE in round 3. Just a thought!

As I said in a previous post, if Christian Hackenberg (or possibly Dak Prescott) is still on the board when they pick in the 4th round, I would not be surprised to see BoB take one of them to compete against Savage. Otherwise, I see the Texans going for the best defensive lineman available (probably a NT) in the 4th round.

Unfortunately, I will be out of the country during this years draft and will only have limited internet access!

Time to bump this thread up. Draft I a couple of weeks. The only player I think the Texans should take in the first is Fuller from ND

I am thinking the Texans might draft Vernon Butler from Louisiana Tech. in round one (best available player??) and maybe trade up in round two to get a wide receiver.

I know we need offense and will not be disappointed if we draft a speed WR but I would like to get a play making safety/CB like Jalen Ramsey. We of course would have to trade up to get him so it won't happen. We re signed Demps, C'mon man!!

Did you see the report about the scout and the QB Dax? I actually like him in the third or fourth round. No easy Texans get near Ramsey. He is top 5 and if they won't trade up for a QB they sure as hell will not trade up for Ramsey
