I am once again surprised this cut and paste wasn't from the Chronicle either. Surely his next C&P will be from www.chron.com.
I suspect a C&P from his hometown (Clarksville) news source will soon follow.

Gaba estimates the number of exchange members at somewhere between 3.65 million and 4.73 million as of the beginning of March. That makes it look plausible, if not certain, that the total will reach 6 million by the end of open enrollment, March 31. And that figure is the revised projection for 2014 enrollment from the Congressional Budget Office-- pared down from its original target of 7 million, because of the well-known technical problems suffered in October and November by the HealthCare.gov website. It's important to remember that experts expect the pace of enrollments to pick up steam all through this month, as the deadline approaches.

Who is Charles Gaba? I have trouble finding out exactly who he is or what he does for whom? Since the target keeps changing how can you talk statistics. You can't find A or B, if C keeps changing. (A+B=C) Let me point out the obvious, Obamacare's website and the program has underperformed in every category and you still think that at the end they will hit the mark (whatever that is at the time). Only with Soviet style math can they do that.
By the way, the only real contender to be Charles Gaba is a web designer and not a statistician. You link goes to a graphic that he may have created but it does not say where the stats came from. Real weak post.

The "relevance" (you can look that up phonetically I think) of the pre-2010 statistics ... IS ... get ready for this ..... they were used in the propaganda to get the ACA on the road to sticking it up the taxpayers' asses ... One Trillion at a time .... while at the same time .... sticking union bailouts down their throats.
To determine if the ACA is doing ANYTHING POSITIVE to the ill that it was SOLD to CURE one must determine the extent of the ILL IT WAS SOLD TO CURE.
Thus the fictitious number of 40 million uninsured down from 50 million originally.
In REALITY (you can look that one up too phonetically or ebonically as you prefer) then only "uninsured" the law was intended to "insure" were the ones who didn't have any and couldn't pay for any ... who qualified for Medicaid!!!
So rather than fade the heat of attempting to REWRITE the Medicaid qualifications to be approved by Congress and suffer the consequences of doing so prior to the 2012 elections .. a FRAUD based on lies was perpetrated on dunces like you, BT, EVA, DOVE, et al, .... to believe that the grand health insurance wizard was going to provide "cheap" health insurance coverage FOR EVERYONE and not only would they be able to keep their existing coverage, but they would be able to keep all their providers they had grown to respect and depend upon for treating them.
And the Dems bought it, hook, line, and sinker. But now they find out ...
.. its' just a SINKER!
And the snake oil salesman who sold them a bill of goods is buying his way out of the scheme by GIVING THEM UNCONSTITUTIONAL RELIEF BY EXECUTIVE ORDERS....including the unions and his buddies who contributed to him and will in the future when he is ready to retire.
Enjoy the "fruit of the poisonous tree" ... so to speak. It is bitter.
I just use the stats provided .... 40 million uninsured minus 4 million signed up = 36 million.
Just what the CBO projected in 2010.

4 million "signups' ... which doesn't mean they HAVE insurance.
Even the administration predicted 7 million was required to be viable.
Where are the other 36 million (according to your numbers) who want insurance and could not get it before the ACA?
|
The CBO projects by the year 2018, 25 million of these 36 million will be insured by the exchanges. Look at the column graph for table 3. The increase in the percentage of people insured happens over time, specifically from years 2014 to 2018. The increase in the total per cent of non-elderly citizens insured goes from 83 to 93%. Thus the CBO is predicting that the effect that the ACA will have is that the percentage of insured citizens will increase by 10%. It takes 4 years for this increase to happen. It will not happen in one year.

"Traction"?
So we got 4 million "signed up" out of 40 million .... EQUALS ...... 36 million!!!!!!
Not only can I read "bar graphs" I can do math!!!!
|
LexusLover, I will agree with you for only the third time on "36 million will remain uninsured even if" . You just need to substract out the number for the illegal immigrants which is approximately 10 million people. If you do that then the amount of people uninsured (26 million) matches the CBO projection in year 2018 in the column graph in Table 3 from link below. This report was signed by the Director of the CBO, Elmendorf.
Again, over time (2014 - 2018) due to the effects of the ACA the percentage of insured people increases 10% from 83 to 93%. The number of additional people insured will be 23 million on the exchanges.
The reason why the percentage for the insured does not go to 100% is that some people will choose not get health insurance and pay the tax. Some people will fall into a Medicaid gap. Not all states excepted the expanded Medicaid. For example, a family of 4 that makes $20,000 will not qualify for an Obamacare policy on HealthCare.gov. This same family will make too much for Medicaid in the State of Alabama. In order the qualify for Medicaid in Alabama you must make less than 11,000. In this example this family will remain uninsured.

It's all a big pipe dream. The true reality of all these numbers is all based on best case scenarios on paper, when it comes down to it though when premiums aren't paid and policies lapse someone has to take the fall and it's going to be in the form of premium increases for those not on the exchange. Obamacare is nothing more than a classic Ponzi scheme. The long range goal of Obamacare is to eventually eliminate the private market so everyone including employee based plans will be diverted to the exchange system so we all will be on a single payer system. You may see that taking shape in around 2020. This may not be a big deal for young healthy people or for older individuals who are still in good health but for those that have more serious health concerns or those that develop catastrophic health conditions they may face a lower degree of healthcare or less affective options to deal with their medical conditions. If you think this is a crock, take a minute to think about the credit history many people have today especially young people. Everybody thinks Obamacare is a free ride, it really isn't.

True, Obamacare is not a free ride. I don't think everyone thinks that it is. The closer your income is to $24,000 the more subsidy you get. The closer your income is to$94,000 the less you get. The success of the ACA will depend on the health insurance companies. Will they continue to sell health insurance polices on the exchanges in 2020? The employer group market is not really changing other than the new policies will have to be offered by the health insurance companies in 3 years.
