ADM John Kirby isn’t fooling anyone by his denials that a decision has been made to move forward on preferring charges of “desertion” against Sad Sack SGT Bowe Bergdahl.
The Pentagon spokesman can claim until he’s blue in the face, that such reports – first made by FOX NEWS and NBC, and now confirmed by MilitaryCorruption.com – are “patently false.” But what will he do when his disingenuous remarks come back to bite him?
Probably what any good public affairs officer (and paid liar) would. Suck it up and move on.
What we now know and can tell you is, Eugene Fidell, the sergeant’s capable attorney, has in his possession the charge sheet, seeking prosecution for desertion. He won’t comment or confirm this publicly, but it’s a fact. The Pentagon is digging a deeper and deeper hole for themselves trying to deny what has already taken place.
BILL CLINTON WAS BETTER AT TELLING LIES
Parsing words like Bill Clinton – “I did not have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky” – just isn’t going to get the job done. Obama obviously would like to continue kicking this can down the road. But the latest news – that one of the five Taliban killers Hussein sprung from Gitmo in exchange for Bergdahl has already been in touch with his murderous Taliban pals – is a further complication and embarrassment for the White House.
The American public is becoming enraged that six American GI’s died looking for a dirt bag, and the President of the United States cuts loose proven killers in trade for Bergdahl.
If Obama had his way, he’d pressure the Army to declare this pathetic loser a “prisoner of war” to somehow “justify” what has proven to be the worst such “swap” in military history.
Many of us remember when Susan Rice declared on TV that Bergdahl had “served with honor and distinction?” And maybe to the folks in the Obama Administration desertion from your post in a combat zone is akin to skipping class and smoking grass. But to the vast majority of America’s military and those serving in harm’s way, it’s a very serious matter.
A VERY DANGEROUS PRECEDENT
What would happen in the future if others decided to desert and use the Bergdahl example as an excuse to get away with it? The whole structure of military discipline as well as enforcement of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) is at stake here.
The way we see it, the only way out is for Obama to let the process proceed and then “pardon” the so-called “paper-promoted” sergeant on humanitarian grounds.
If we had our druthers, Bergdahl would be busted to Private, lose all back pay and allowances, and get a bad conduct discharge; maybe six months behind bars, too. But BAM can’t afford to let that happen. So look for the Taliban-seeking sarge to “walk” free if the President can arrange it.
