Make no mistake, the US Military won the Afghanistan War militarily. The war was lost politically.

The US was pulling out behind an Afghani government and military that was relying on US firepower. We had enough troops and firepower to keep the Taliban at bay. The war had shifted to being fought by the Afghani Army, which proved corrupt, incompetent, and impotent without US firepower behind it. That was its strategy, to hide behind US firepower.

Biden abandoned this effective plan for the one that would lead to the disaster of a pullout. Herein lies the cause of the defeat. Our troops were conducting a pullout anticipating that the Afghani government and military would hold up. Trump's plan would've covered a thorough withdrawal. Biden's guaranteed disaster.

The US equipment that fell into Taliban hands was equipment provided to the incompetent Afghanistan Army. This is similar to how ISIS captured US military equipment from the Iraqi Army units that they overwhelmed. This also happened after the communist Vietnamese took over South Vietnam. They captured US military equipment from the South Vietnamese Army, which took over the Vietnam War from the spring of 1973 to the Fall of Saigon.

The Taliban's takeover was mostly psychological, leveraging social media and a better understanding of the psychology of the people. Trump's plan, as well as the US military assets that were there prior to Resident Biden's instalment, effectively hammered the Taliban every time the Taliban attempted to do in 2020 what they succeeded in doing in 2021.

As with Vietnam, and was almost the case with Iraq, the collapse of Afghanistan was the result of Democrat strategic incompetence.
