LUCAS:
Your post was reported to the moderators BEFORE you edited to remove the foul language containing personal attack toward me.
All I said was I think Sistine Chapel is a guy and not a girl.
There was ABSOLUTELY no reason for you to reply toward me in that BULLYING HARASSING manner.
ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHATSOEVER!
Why are you on here anyway?
You have been here 9 years and you don't have a single review.
I've seen you over and over attacking and bullying and harassing other members for the same thing you just did to me.
Someone could say something as innocuous as the weather is nice today and I have seen you attack them before.
Really?!?
Are you just a constantly bitter person who is angry at life and at people in general?
Did you not get enough love and attention as a child?

I would bet that the young man understands the Bible a good deal better than you and not just in the superficial meaning but in what his faith means to him.
How many among us have faith strong enough to forgive the sinner regardless of the personal cost? You have to understand, that if he really is that strong in his faith that he also believes that his brother is now in heaven and that this was Gods plan.
You think he's misguided, but in fact, it is you, I, and everyone else, that should be following his example.

What does "you won't find them in the new testament" have to do with anything? Let me guess, you're one of those who believes the old testament doesn't matter and you can just ignore it. The ten commandments are laid out in the old testament. Are you arguing that they are irrelevant b/c they are in the old testament?
Romans 13 is in the New Testament and speaks specifically to obeying the laws of the land and accepting punishment handed down by governing authorities. It just also happens to reference the commandments from the Old Testament as well.
Quote:
Romans 13 King James Version (KJV)
13 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

No. That is against Texas law. Females cannot be housed within sight or hearing of males.
Texas Commission on Jail Standards controls TDCJ facilities.

this time tomorrow night I will be at the Lizzo concert (no jokes, please.. she has the current #1 song this week), which is literally directly across the street from the South Side Flats, where Botham Jean was killed. I'm sure it will be a weird feeling.

That will be weird. In some ways like visiting the 6th Floor museum. A decent man got shot down in both places.
Fuckin' Tejas....

The jury lady in the video is kinda hot. I would not mind deliberating with her for a week.

Nope. Lots if structural problems with he suit. Damage caps, 5th Circuit being one of, if not THE worst Federal Circuit for holding cops responsible. Have to prove Department policy was the direct cause, not a cause. My guess is it gets it bounced out in summary judgment as to the city. They’ll get a huge verdict against her, but you can’t collect one dime of it. I file and try lawsuits for a living. I dint take police shootings, even good ones, because they don’t pay worth’s shit. and this ain’t a good one. It’s worse than most. If they pay, it’ll be next to nothing. Defense costs. And I’d doubt that.
CG2014, you act surprised that the jurors were thoughtful. Of course they were. That’s why juries work. 12 people deliberating together, and trying hard to do the right thing, usually come very close more often than not. Those of us who try lawsuits regularly could tell you that any day of the week.

I did a quick search on the civil suit and found this. The Summary Judgment motions on the claims against the city have been heard by a magistrate judge, and she recommended to the U.S. District Judge, that it be dismissed. The district judge will likely rule soon and I expect her to adopt the magistrates recommendation. Pretty decent story for a general newspaper.

TTH, you make a lot of sense and I'm not a lawyer. But this just seems like a lawsuit to settle but you know about how these cases work obviously more than I do. I just assumed they would get a "cost of defense/headache/bad publicity/goodwill/idiot cop" go away settlement... again, I guess time will tell.

How liable is the apartment complex? I'm not an attorney but if the parking garage floors were clearly marked, the apartments were clearly numbered and most importantly, if the door locks worked properly, none of this would have happened.

Of course not. I didn't say the OT was irrelevant just that because there are "severe" punishments in the doesn't mean that as a Christian one should not forgive their transgressors. That was your original argument. But the core tenets of Christianity aren't based on the OT... if they were we'd all just be Jewish.
A Christian that is faithful to the teachings of Christ would forgive her. That's what he's doing... that doesn't make him ignorant of the Bible or mis-informed as you wrote. It makes him a better disciple of Christ than most of us could ever hope to be. Saying he's ignorant or not a "real" black because of his choice to forgive only illustrates that people don't understand Christs message.
What was the last thing He said as a man?... "Forgive them. They know not what they do." Words that kid could just as easily utter towards those that criticize him for being a faithful disciple of Christ.

Well herein lies the problem. That was NOT my argument. My argument was that the young man said that he didn't want her to go to jail but instead turn her life over to Christ. My point was that the two are not mutually exclusive. His statement implies that he thinks they are, which is why I said he was misguided. He can forgive her, and she can still turn her life over to Christ while in jail and accepting her punishment that was handed down by "the powers that be".

Were there any statements that said she wasn't already religious? I know she fucked her married partner but let's be honest, very religious people (like everyone else) tend to conveniently bend the rules when it comes to having a moral compass about sex.
