Aw, fu*k, IB, read your own graph.
The only two sections which have any relevence to the current situation are the ones from 1929 to 1945 and the ones from 2007 onward. The first one has to do with the Great Depression and the current one has to do with the Great Recession. They are the only two eras that are comparable in our history. Both had essentially the same cause (out of control financial institutions playing roulette, craps, whatever with other peoples' invested money).
Sadly, the only thing that got us out from under the Great Depression was WWII (the BIG one). WWII, for the US, began 12 years and one month after the Crash of '29. The rationale behind the 2007-'08 stimulous was that FDR didn't throw enough $$ at the Great Depression soon enough. That may or may not be true and there are some who continue to argue that not enough was thrown at our current mess. Either way, it's going to take quite a while to build back up from the current ditch we now occupy. Who caused it is irrelevant at this point and a waste of energy, bandwidth and resources to continue to rehash it. Just as the USA began to move from a rural, agriculture-based economy to an urban, manufacturing-based economy from '41 onwards, we now are gong to have to revise our economic makeup. That ain't going to be easy and it ain't gonna happen overnight, regardless of who is running the show.
All of this crap we are indulging in here in the National Sh*tbox is sort of fun in a perverse way, but it's also quite useless with regards to helping to create an environment of figuring out how to pull together in order to go as fast as possible towards some semblance of a recovery. As long as everyone continues to waste the little brainpower available on one-upping those with opposing viewpoints we are just like the klowns in Kongress everyone is so disgusted with.
