I've got a blued Super Blackhawk with ivory grips(faux I'm guessing but still pretty) in .44 Mag. made in '76. The 7 1/2" barrel is inscribed on the top "Made in the 200th year of our nation's liberty"

I've been looking at the LC9 for CC but I'm starting to like that FN Five Seven.

My Dad also bought one of the early S&W .44 Magnums. Unfortunately it has a blue finish, not nickel or stainless. He was into handgun hunting back in the late '50s and early '60s, so now that big ol' revolver looks like it's been through a war!

I have a Kimber Gold Match II .45 auto. Not much of a handgun for hunting, of course, but it's great fun to shoot!

I saw a guy shoot a Smith .500 a while back. It had a 7 or 8 inch compensated barrel and kicked like a mule. It makes my .44 mag look impotent. They make it in a 3 1/2 or 4 in. barrel that they call the Alaskan Fisherman.
I get the concept but I might as well take my mauling from a big ole grizzly as to have to shoot that thing.

I love my .357 blackhawk. I've hunted with it, iron sights, and have hit moving targets(pigs, sheep,) from 30 - 40 yards or so. It's the one handgun I have absolute confidence in shooting. I know I can hit what I aim it at.

Before the .500 came about Freedom Arms had the .454 Casull that they made into a U.S. Marshal's" limited edition with a 4 inch barrel. That thing kicked like a donkey on a ton of caffeine and at night would blind the shooter with the fireworks coming out of it.. bought one of the last Super Bearcats made in 72 ...

Western style revolver (smalish not much bigger than hand sized)
.22 cal
engraved cly
brass trigger guard
walnut grips (smooth)

I could take it and my Winchester 97 pump 12 ga to any western shoot in the country and be a top gun ... lol

I own guns that have been in my family since the early 30's

CJ7, I have two 5-screw Smiths, vintage mid 50's, one is a 4" MODEL 29 in 44 Mag, the other a 6 1/2 inch Model 27 in 357.

I have a couple of 41 mags, one is a 8 3/8 model 57, the other a 4 inch model 58. You remember that was the fixed sight 41 mag that Smith tried to get the Police to adopt. There weren't many takers, especially after they fired them. Definatelly a hand full.

If I didn't handload, the 41's would be just about obsolete.

If you are old enough to remember, Elmer Keith had Remington duplicate, in a factory offerring, his pet "22.5 grns of 2400 behind a 240 grn semi wadcutter" 44 mag load.. That was a blast in a 4 inch barrel model 29.

I wish this was not a SHMB, I could tell you what my "other Hobby" is. I can say that I shoot about 6000 rounds a year.

That's a .600 Nitro Express Pistol. WTF?
150+ ft.lbs of recoil energy at 28fps velocity in a 12 lb rifle. That's like someone hurling a sledge hammer at you with all their might and you trying to catch it.

Compare that to the 30-06
180 g. bullet produces 20.3 ft. lbs of recoil energy at 12.8 fps velocity

a .338 Win mag is roughly 35 ft. lbs and 16 fps.

That guy didn't have a clue what he was trying to shoot. Even with a better stance and grip no one could hold on to that.

Boardman, that 500 Smith is one of those things that makes you say, "what in the hell were they thinking". You are right, shooting one makes you yearn to pick up something with a light recoil, like a 44 mag

LMAO ... for me to even consider bustin' one off, that sob needs a turret, and a 10 foot rope on the trigger ... thats a gun you dont want to be in front of when it goes off OR behind
