I'm sorry guys, I know how popular MMA is, but it's got a long way to go to be a real sport imho. With the exception of a few of the more spectacular knockouts, I find it to be visually unpleasing and pedantic. Guys lying on the floor trying to sneak in a rabbit punch? No wonder the rounds are 5 minutes long.
Give me the sweet science any day. Hell of a lot more athletic imho.

Learn a bit more about wrestling and BJJ and then tell me that.
I boxed for around 15 years and when I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a couple years ago it was an entirely different world. Its a chess match and hard to really appreciate unless you understand it. Boxing is def alot harder on the body though I still cant breath out of my left nostril because of accumulation of scar tissue and my right hand looks funny from breaking it multiple times. MMA you just tap early and avoid the injury I guess. From my experience with both boxing and MMA much more thinking goes into MMA as opposed to boxing I think the term "The sweet science" should be applied to MMA moreso than boxing. If I can drop the weight I may fight again in an MMA match, I have almost 30 boxing matches on my book and realllllly want to fight again but damn its hard to drop down to 185ish so I can cut to 170 for fights now that I am 31.
But ya im down to go watch fights or even order them at my place, I have a 120 inch high def screen to watch them on.

That's cool Lovelamp, I used to work out at Richard Lord's Boxing Gym back in the day. Pretty cool guy, never really sparred though. I would love to learn bjj but been kinda busy and very lazy. I thought my 75 inch tv was big, lol eventually broke on me.

Actually, I know a tad about wrestling, having done it in hs and college. That, too, is an ugly sport imho. Lots of strategy and skill, but not a lot of fun to watch for me. While I found Rulon Gardner's gold medal wrestling performance in the Olympics to be boring as shit, it made me proud to be an American! But the match sucked. Not losing isn't winning in my opinion.
This is more about personal preference for me. I know there's a lot of strategy involved in MMA and BJJ and don't begrudge anybody that. I'm just saying that I don't personally find it visually exciting. I'd rather watch a good boxing match any day.

I agree somewhat, I watched The Fighter the other day and right afterwards watched the Ward / Gotti trilogy again. Not much beats a good battle of heart like those two showed

Yea you know Yssup, the thing about boxing is there just are no more great fights like that anymore. The only fighter I follow now a day is Pacquiao.

GSP will take the W , tap him ? lol , I don't think so ...
GSP will keep the fight in the stand up where Shields's game is pretty much non existant ...

I think that's MMA's biggest problem. If you're familiar with wrestling/bjj, then you can appreciate what's going on a lot more. (Or, at least that is what friends who train in MMA tell me.) However, if you're a more casual viewer like me, it just looks like two guys on the ground spooning.
Thus, I don't find MMA interesting enough to give it my undivided attention, so if I am watching it, I am usually doing something else as well, such as playing on the computer. This is especially true for those 'lay and pray' wrestlers. IMHO, the judges should pay more attention to how much damage a fighter does on the ground, as opposed to getting points for taking somebody down, and then just laying on them the rest of the round.
As for the Ultimate Fighter, that show is nothing but a big circus. I found it interesting at first, but once they started pissing on people's pillows and jizzing on the food, I tuned out. It is an embarrassment to MMA.

I do agree with you on the judging system Worknman. In Pride there was never a fight where I was man that guy got rob because they scored it by most damage done. But in UFC it happens alot, many of the judges are actually boxing judges. And we know how corrupt boxing judges can be, the most recent fight was Martin Kampman vs Diego Sanchez. I thought Kampman won that fight easily but nope decision went to Sanchez.
