The problem here is that the CBO scoring is purposely compromised by design. See https://budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.ed...easing-deficit

According to the paper linked above guideline 14 requires the CBO to ignore increases to revenue or decreases in direct spending when scoring a bill that provides direct spending for administrative or program management activities.

It's done to keep the scoring between bills on an equal footing.

It's a good read. I hope it changes your opinion on more funding for the IRS. Of any program in the US government it's the one that needs to run the most efficiently.

Doesn’t concern me either way actually. A simpler tax code would more effectively eliminate tax cheating.

I think it’s more interesting that republicans look to CBO scoring when Dems do anything and claim it’s wrong when they increase the deficit and debt.

What’s good for the goose and all.

Exactly. The IRS's annual budget was $13.7 billion before it was allocated the $80 billion.

Speaker Johnson and the Biden Administration and others need to work on the "simpler" part. As one of our eccie brethren pointed out to me today, the changes in the tax code during the Reagan Administration, which made the tax system simpler and eliminated many economically-inefficient tax shelters, passed with overwhelming support from Democrats.

So it can be done, if our politicians develop enough backbone to stand up to the special interests. Right now the biggest beneficiaries of our complicated tax code are the tax attorneys and accountants.

See, when you’re not buying into crazy conspiracy theories, you and I can agree on things.

what would you do if another ethnic group with political power over you deigned you to be a 2nd class citizen and ran roughshod over your civil rights?

if you're a true red-blooded American, you'd fight. what the Brits did to us wasn't half as bad as what the Zionists have done to the Palestinians.

and Jews aren't equal to Zionists, as Palestinians aren't equal to Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

i found out on 23andme 2 years ago that i'm a Jew. still, that doesn't make me a Zionist.

speaker johnson's finances is unusual. he is loaded with debt and does not appear to have a bank account.

The CBO is about as non partisan as it gets. Unfortunately politicians tend to spread their bullshit all over it. If we’re going to talk about the CBO we should at least be informed on how their data is collected, collated and disseminated.

GREAT GUY
what you're right about is the MAGA part. And not the meaning of the acronym, but rather it's a moniker for Dickhead Donnie.

I'm not sure why his religious beliefs mean anything with the declaration of having a separation of church and state; last time I checked, the house of reps is a part of the "state".

Family Man- everyone likes that and I have no problem with him being either a family man or not. I just don't need his priorities to be mine, especially if they are based on his belief system vs. laws and integrity. But so far,- no concern on this part of his background.

Why do liberals hate Christians and family men?

I’m sure there are a few other boxes “liberals hate” about MAGA Speaker Johnson that weren’t checked, OFA.

Eye just pointed out two of them.

Safe to say ace’s ace-sessment was a swing and a miss. Or, better put, two swings and misses.

LOLLING!
