I don’t blame you; you probably have been discouraged from thinking critically about racial and identity issues. The real evil of racism, sexism, xenophobia etc., has nothing to do with whether it’s victims have a choice of membership in their respective group. The true evil is the wholesale negative judgment of people based on nothing more than group membership.

We should judge people as individuals, not as members of a group. If you talk to a particular Trump supporter and he tells you that we should go back to Jim Crow laws, then fine, he’s a racist. That doesn’t mean that all Trump supporters agree with him, though, and it certainly doesn’t mean all Trump supporters are racists. Saying all Trump supporters are racists says much more about you than it does about Trump supporters.

With maybe one or two exceptions I don’t think anyone is giving her grief for refusing to see black men. Even the guy she refused to see didn’t have a problem with that choice. There’s simply no excuse for setting up an appointment, having him travel to the incall then cancelling on him when she sees he’s black. She could have clarified in advance that she won’t see black guys and not set the appointment to begin with.
