They are still around, and while not "thick burgers" they are excellent and inexpensive!

Best burgers in DFW. Hands down Roy Pope Grocery on the westside of Ft Worth. A couple of blocks north on Merrick near the intersection of Camp Bowie and Merrick. Their deli counter makes burgers during the lunch hours only. But I challenge you to find a better burger.

Maple and Motor; For an old style simple 50's laid back restaurant with a BIG greasy (juicy) cheeseburger.
Surprised in hasn't been mentioned already. It's about a mile southeast of Love Field. All the others are good too; but if it's just about a BIG old fashion burger, then it's Maple and Motor.

I bet they don't sell that many.

People go to IHOP for breakfast.
of course. i went there several times while out of town on a visit. did not order one burger. only omelets, eggs and hash browns and steak and eggs. steak well done of course not so much because i prefer it that way but because the meat is usually kept too long and it cooks off any containment.
When you don't have a lot of sale on certain menu items, their ingredients do not get rotated and replaced with fresh ones as fast and as often.
IHOP claims their burgers are fresh, never frozen.
Fresh raw ground beef only keeps in the refrigerator for 1-2 days before it has to be thrown out.

We all know many restaurants managers try to maximimize their bottom line, minimize their losses, by keeping ingredients as long as they can.
Every ingredient that's thrown out is dollars and pennies lost.
Never order a steak well done on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday.
always order a steak well done unless you want a badly cooked i.e. raw steak 1 week past serving. or just go to a top notch streak house and order medium rare.
(Plus anyone who orders a steak well done any day of the week shouldn't be eating steaks.)
You will get the steak that came in on the previous Thursday food delivery that didn't sell over the Thursday to Saturday rush and it's already starting to go brown.
It's common knowledge in the restaurant industry that on Sunday when the kitchen staff wants to throw out steaks that are turning brown and grey, they are told to not do so and to

I had those smashburgers a couple of times.
I have never been to a burger place where they give you such infinite amount of french fries with one order.
More than that's humanly possible for 2 humans to finish and that's one order.

Twisted Root used to be good, but Maple and Motor is where you want to go in Dallas for a consistently great burger.
For years, I never tried anything there but their excellent burgers, then one day I finally tried their brisket sandwich. Now that's usually what I get when I'm there.

Oh, and I just saw that TripAdvisor put out a list of the ten best burgers in America and Grumps in Granbury made the list: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/19/trip...n-america.html
They do make a tasty burger, that's for sure.
