If states wanted to enact socialist policies, guess what? The Constitution would allow that. But as a nation, no. We were not set up to be socialist.

yes my parents paid school taxes and sent me to public schools and did the best they could to makes sure I learned more than what was taught there. I too pay school taxes and my children went to public schools and I made sure they learned more than they were taught there. You see it is the responsibility of the parents to insure that their children get the education that they need and not the responsibility of the government but local school districts have been established to have a source for public education. The biggest problem comes in when the federal government gets involved in what is a local responsibility. Once again the federal government has exceeded its authority.

Would you like to hear my stories of living in Houston without air conditioning because we could not afford it? how about how I learned to dumpster dive and scrounge to make some money.

Compare the general welfare clause with the 9th and 10th amendments. If the general welfare clause meant what you think it means, then we have no Constitution at all. the Federal Government can do whatever it wants. Kind of like we have now. And getting worse.

I just do not understand how some folks think some taxes are socialist in nature and others are capitalist taxes! All taxes are socialist in nature. I think COG is so enamored with his fair tax , that he has forgotten that fact.
