Black Walnut is fantastic, indestructible, beautiful, and I don't mind having to resharpen tools afterwards. There's just something in working with, and running hands over an attractive .... But it's rare that someone understands the value in that, and it's been awhile since I worked with Walnut on a large project. Nice lake trip with planks and core spindles (small columns) to replace a fireplace mantle & supports in a place that was being rebuilt. It had to match other trim in the house.
