I did the same, left it alone for 25 years. Pays in the long run.

If I could do it all over again, one thing I would do different is to invest more post tax dollars into a Roth, and less into qualified investments. The idea was that I'd be in a lower tax bracket at retirement and there would be less of a hit.
In reality, I'm in the same tax bracket. But overall I'm still happy with the outcome.

Wish Roth IRAs were around in the 80s when I started investing. They weren't. Was told, don't worry you will be in a lower tax bracket at retirement. Didn't happen. Paying more taxes now than when working many years ago due to investments paying off well. Also still very happy overall with the outcome, in spite of higher taxes to pay.

The advice was baased on the likelihood of moving it to a fixed annuity at retirement. I later decided against that because I didn't need the additional monthly income.
