There are those ladies who don't like the term applied to them.
I'm reminded of board in a particular city (sadly, defunct a number of years now), where the board owners (a couple providers) had their web developer or admin (whoever would set up their board software) add a script that replaced the word "whore" with the phrase "nice lady" whenever someone used it. Caused me a little puzzlement when I was trying to make reference to a webpage or blog post which used the word "whore" in the title (and several places in the quote from the posting I was using), until I figured out where all the "nice lady"s were coming from.
