hey S.E.M, i agree that this is a great topic. in fact, just based on my observation since i have been on eccie that the title of this thread could also be:
" it's all in how WHO words it"

i say this because it seems if this exact same topic with the exact same title was started by a guy, there would be WAY more negativity. eventually someone would put up a link to an older thread about the same topic. not a complaint, just an observation.
in regards to what you said, it reminds me when i first joined eccie. it was around the same time i moved back to the u.s after spending most of my adult life life in europe and oz. my quick bio is : mom is blonde/blue eyed swedish.dad is brown hair/brown-eyed black american .dad was in the navy when they met. i was born in sweden and the 1st half of my childhood was in sweden . the other half was in chicago. and i went to university in europe and lived there and oz til i was 30 and moved to TX.
over there i always said bi-racial or dual citizen. or mixed.(and sometimes when i was in an eastern european country like, say, bosnia, i stuck out so much people assumed that i was famous so i would get a reaction like : " lenny kravitz!" or "ben harper!" or a random dj i never heard of)
but after i have been in the states now 10 + years now. i am just black to those who do not know me. doesnt bother me at all
my very first thread that i started was asking how come there was such a high percentage of ladies not seeing AA guys. i was a newbie and ignorant to the 'hobby game' then and i genuinely was curious why. i understood(and respected) the preference, i just want to know if the reason was the same for most. i had no idea about the common stereotypes like : pimp or haggling or thus. silly me thought it actually had to do with JUST the color of the skin....
anyways, the very first time seeing a provider(she was white) on eccie was sort of a reverse bait and switch. i contacted her via pm a couple times. then text. then i called her the day of the visit. i arrive at her incall apt complex and texted her that i was parking and she said she would come out to meet me. she comes down and i get out of my car and she froze up. she asked me who was it that she was speaking to on the phone earlier. i said it was me (duh). she seemed confused and paused for about 30 secs before saying " i thought you were a white guy. i dont see AA" she said i " sounded" white on the phone. at the time, i'd never heard that one before. noticed i said 'at the time'. now i have heard it 100 times at least. one other important caveat about that day is that my real photo is on here. no avatar or naked photo or any of that. i initially put it on here because i dont hobby because i want some extra on the side. so there isnt a risk of me being "outed" because there isnt a mrs. djarchae. its just me and my 2 'kids' ( and they both have four legs haha). after being on eccie for a while now, i decided to keep my real photo so the provider knows what i look like .

i went through that tangential diatribe to say this: when i am asked by a provider on here if i am african american , my inclination is to always say no. because technically i am not. i have two passports. one says usa. one says sweden. but in eccie nation ( and in THIS nation) its about who you look like...
