What was important to me in lustylad's post is that the black vote dropped 12% in 2016. Let's assume for the moment that Joe Biden is the Democratic nominee in 2020. He has shown himself to be much more popular among blacks than Clinton so it is very possible, if not probable, that the black voters will come out and support him rather than sit at home like they did in 2016.
Again, I think you put too much emphasis on the economy. Employment is the lowest in history among whites also. While the economy is somewhat better for AAs and Latins, there are more problems in their labor market than in the white labor market.
"With the 10-year anniversary of the economic recovery this month, policymakers may be easily lulled into complacency when it comes to employment—but they would be remiss to do so. The jobs market has been resilient in the face of several counterproductive policies over the past two years—from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to the Trump administration’s escalating trade war—and it’s difficult to overstate how important strong job growth remains to the most vulnerable Americans. Not only do African Americans and Latinx Americans face significant employment gaps, but the fact that minorities are last hired and first fired also means that strong job growth is especially important to these workers long after the official end of a recession. If anything can be learned about the U.S. labor market over the past decade, it is that policymakers have underestimated the benefits of an extended recovery and in particular how it affects the most vulnerable Americans. Challenges also remain for workers living in rural communities, workers with disabilities, and workers looking for a raise.
Broader economic trends that put pressure on American workers—in conjunction with the Trump administration’s disconcerting priorities that favor the wealthy and corporations—hurt working families. They also put into focus the need to highlight the conditions and lived experiences of people across the economy. Job growth has been uneven across all sectors of employment since the Great Recession, with many sectors only now returning to their prerecession employment levels. The food service and health care sectors—which tend to have lower-than-average hourly earnings—have seen the most job growth since the recession.

Why complain. IF Trump loses in 2020 you already have your excuse ready made.

More voters considered him the superior candidate in the states with more electoral votes.

Trump is quite upset with the latest Fox News poll which has him losing to Biden by 10% and Sanders by 6%. Biden has been ahead by double digits since the first poll last October. The poll did have him improving in approval rate by 1 point but falling in race relations by 3 points.
Summary Table Among Registered Voters
Approve Disapprove (Don’t know)
The economy 52% 41 7
Border security 44% 52 4
Immigration 41% 54 5
International trade 40% 49 12
North Korea 39% 49 13
Iran 39% 46 15
Health care 38% 51 11
Race relations 32% 57 10

Hahahahaha, That's priceless. In 2020 when Trump is reelected the Dems can't talk about Collusion. They lost because of the concussions they all seem to have especially the front four, lol.

It's not an "excuse'. It's a reality.
AOC, Tlaib and Omar still haven't been censored. Waters, Omar and Ellison still happily embrace Farrakhan. Etc., etc., etc.
The racism on the left is there, but they're not doing anything about it until they have their nose rubbed in each pile of shit in their own house.

CNN Photo Editor Resigns After Old Anti-Semitic Tweets ... Resurface
Photo editor Mohammed Elshamy resigned from CNN on Thursday evening after his old tweets disparaging Jewish people were resurfaced. A 2011 tweet from Elshamy said, “More than 4 jewish pigs killed in #Jerusalem today by the Palestinian bomb explode.” Others referred to a “sh–y Jewish idiot” being acquired by Premier League soccer team Arsenal and “rulers who lick Jewish legs.” Also Read: CNN Reporter Apologizes for 'Immature' Old Tweets With Gay Slurs Elshamy’s verified Twitter account is now private.

Ask Speedy. He will undoubtedly refer you to the popular vote. But Hillary is sitting around getting fatter and drunk. But Trump is POTUS. Oh well.

The "polls" predicted a Hillary win with Trump usually well within the margin of error.
The MSM pundits extrapolated that to a definitive Hillary win and screwed the pooch in doing so.
2020 is shaping up to be much like 2016 where a few key states will make the difference.
As was noted in this thread, it's far to early to pass any judgement on the polls of today. At this point in the 2016 election cycle, Trump was still touted as zero chance of getting the nomination let alone becoming POTUS.
Things change over time. Another year + is a long time for both Trump and the horrible field the Dems are putting out.

Trump, for one, is taking the polls quite seriously. I can guarantee you on that. He was very aware of the latest Fox News poll and blasted them. I agree that they are polls at a single point in time and they might not factor in the "Trump Factor" but they are not meaningless.

The polls in 2016 were incorrect at the state level in many states in 2016 for several reasons. From what I've read on the subject the most plausible reason is that the majority of the people in the polls who stated "Undecided", which usually runs about 10%. chose Trump at the polls.
As I cited earlier, polls in 2012 and 2008 were remarkably accurate. As they were in the 2018 midterm elections. Maybe they will be inaccurate leading up to the 2020 elections. We shall see.
