Well, that may have been an "after thought," but the copy apparently went in to get a cup of coffee.

But I have a question: Isn't Oakland the city in which the Mayor has warned illegals of raids and the City PD doesn't cooperate with ICE? So, if "illegals" hang out at the coffee shop ...

.. was the officer ACTUALLY going in to warn them of a "raid"?

So, let's back up then ...

... an officer drops by your business and insists on hanging around to discuss with you ...

"setting up an on going meet the police (spanish speaking) type service" for "a chance for the community to meet and talk to a cop in a friendly atmosphere."

Everyone seems pissed the owner would serve coffee to a cop! Not that the owner doesn't want to join a "community meeting"!

In a letter to the Oakland police union after the incident, the coffee shop said “it does not serve the police.”
Nothing about any "community meeting in "Spanish"!

The first paragraph of the article you linked:

I'll repeat to stress the point: "police did not have a constitutional duty to protect a person from harm"....

... so you are wrong on "the law"! You carefully omitted the "constitutional part"!

How the officer responds to a particular call is discretionary, which means that with a few exceptions the officer does not HAVE to make a warrantless arrest someone, even when the offense is committed in their presence....if their departmental policy is different then they may get administrative action within the department and/or civil liability based on failing to comply with policy.

I didn't bother to look at the SC case, because historically the SCOTUS defines the boundaries of police action as opposed to the obligations they have to the community that hired them. The LE took an oath and agreed to the policies and procedures of the department. BTW: Before you go there .. customarily the policies and procedures of LE departments follow a format except for minute details that may be specific for their particular jurisdiction....responding to calls for service within their jurisdiction and extraterratorial jurisdiction is not one of the details.

But your diversion away from the posted reason why this officer went into the coffee shop is not relevant. Only trying to change the subject ... he went in to get a cup of coffee ... not a call for service at that location. Is your objection that illegals drink coffee there, but not police?

Your statement: ... is not relevant. #1: Gays are a protected class if discriminated against as such and #2: the bakery served "gays" (how they knew I don't have a clue, but perhaps they have a "gayness" meter at the door), but their objection was their religious beliefs regarding "gay marriage," which they were asked to facilitate. That is apples and oranges as far as refusing to serve uniformed officers.

Do you know any bars in the community that serve uniformed officers alcoholic beverages?
Mebbe those gays walked in like assup, wtf, mistake and EKIM do ,wearing their rainbow thongs and NO OTHER clothing, whilst proudly displaying their most recent load of " man batter " dripping from all over their face and head ! With dingleberry remnants around their mouths for added " authenticity " and singing " Macho Man " by the Village People !

You mean into the bakery?

As for the Oakland PD ... after perusing their website it appears to me they have a "recruiting" problem ... I'll climb out on a limb and speculate the "sanctuary" policy of the city makes that a challenge ... and the "mayor" revealing "classified" information to illegals in the city sort of doubled-downs against that effort.

Being "wounded ducks on a pond" in a uniform is bad enough without running the risk of being prosecuted for violating Federal law by conspiring to thwart DHS/ICE efforts to clean up the mess in MexiFornia and having to spend many sleepless years in prison!

Or mebbe I.C.E. can go by there and see what snowflake " customers and employees " are A-SKEERED of when it comes to uniformed personnel !
When i heard the shop owner's justification "It presents an emotional and physical threat to our customers" that was the first thing out of my mind.. THAT ALL his customers are illegal aliens.

Gays are ONLY NOW a protected group. THey were not prior to many of these bakeries doing it.
