This strategy worked during WW II and prior wars, which is why the US won those wars. Beginning towards the end of WW II, politicians started running the wars and that strategy was considered too extreme. Mass air bombings during WW II crippled and destroyed the enemies ability to hide in urban areas. This resulted in the complete destruction of cities and killed many civilian casualties. Since then the politicians figured they would control how we engage our enemies, which is why we have yet to win a war. We win a little victory here and there, but never the war. Can't remember which NVA general said this, but he said something to the effect that he knew the USA could not win because the politicians and media wouldn't let them. Hamas and terrorist use this same advantage in fighting. They coward in mosques (which are off limits to bomb) and among civilians. I say fuck it, do as Israel and just send a bomb to where ever the enemy is. Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups don't seem to give a fuck about "collateral damage" or civilians (9-11) so why should we.
