Not saying it doesn't happen. Just that the demand is low, and the rewards are not great (too many guys will do it for free). A guy can't easily see multiple clients in a day, so it's either a side gig (like you mentioned) or they focus on long term dates or have more regular sugar mommas.

A relative of a friend was a gay escort, and he would do “straight for pay” for female clients once in a while. There aren’t very many female clients, and almost anyone claiming to be a male gigolo is mostly seeing gay men.

While it is true that the ladies choose, the fact is, they do not do so due to looks or physical stature, as that would leave out most of the prospective clients.
