ITA with the instigator part but it's our differences that make life interesting, especially since they ran off most of the regulars who have posted in this forum and before when it was the old aspd. I dig your willingness to listen, JonB, and that you actually talk from real life experience, instead of out of your ass like a certain poster.

I suspect he means that the man on the phone was acting as if he had a devive right to be taken care of over and above everyone else; that he in essence saw himself as godlike, better than the others also in line and delayed.

Would you be referring to the poster who watches Bill O'Reilly and gets all his information from FOX News? That certain poster?

I have sympathy for those who are "truly" handicapped or disabled (mentally and/or physically)... and for the people who have the tough responsibility of supporting them... but too often, the definition of "poor" in the USA is :
- lack of family support , values , role models
- lack of goals
- lack of focus
- lack of drive and ambition
I can understand generations of individuals "set-up" by being raised within a broken system of social (so-called) assistance... but very seldom do I buy the "lack of opportunity" excuse! * A majority of the time, that is simply not the case!

Your true colors are shining through with this one! Margaret Sanger believed the same things and you share the same solutions.......
This is a major difference between liberals and conservatives....conservatives believe in people.....What did poor people do 100 years ago before the welfare state? They made it without government.....every "POOR" person today has generations of ancestors who made it without government help....
Certainly there are individuals like Trig Palin who cannot survive without help....what about them? Well, a lot of them have family and friends to take care of them....the rest have charity
Who should do charity? Who did charity 100-200 years ago? Back then churches and private charitable organizations did charity....YES, THE EVIL RELIGIOUS PEOPLE DID THE CHARITY!!!!!!!! [and still do]....
in the "old days" people were forced by circumstances to do the best for themselves that they can....for those that couldn't provide for themselves or have family provide for them, private charity stepped up and took care of them....it worked, and worked efficiently.....people didn't get to free-load unless they found a willing sucker.......
government is incompetent and corrupt.....politicians see government charity as an opportunity to buy votes and increase their power......they worry about themselves, not the truly needy.....now the free-loaders have tens of millions of unwilling or ignorant suckers
government charity allows people NOT to take care of themselves....government gives charity not to the needy, but political supporters......
Who is responsible for taking care of people? Firstly, one should take care of oneself....if that person can't, then his family or friends should take care of him.....if no family or friends, then volunteers [private charity].....
there has always been volunteers to feed, clothe, doctor or house people.....of course, in the US, those considered "poor" can do that, but liberals think the poor should also have 54" HDTV's.......
60% of children in government schools received free or subsidized meals....do 60% of them NEED it? Their parents can't feed them? Is this fair?
With all the feeding programs in place to feed children outside of schools, there is no excuse for parents not to feed their kids....schools should not have to step in and do it.....I'll bet if some of these children who aren't getting fed [despite all the feeding programs] were taken away from their parents, most of these free-loaders would do a better job of parenting.......
Doove doesn't really care about the truly poor....if he did, he wouldn't want corrupt and incompetent government doing charity....Doove is a hater who wants money taken from those he hates.....he is an anarchist just like the character in his avatar......he just wants to watch the City on the Hill burn.......

One time you asked me why all my whining is associated with NYS....well, thats mainly cause THATS WHERE I LIVE!!!LOL!! it has the best weather, love the change of seasons..especially the end of summer going into fall, the BRUTAL humid weather is driving you nuts and then you FEEL that first hint of cool air flowing in and you can smell it, and the humidity drops, the leaves start changing, it gets darker earlier which makes it alittle eeerie and then it plays right into the halloween theme....Cant imagine living in California(no offense Californians) where the weather doesnt coincide with all the holidays the way it does here. It makes all the other crap somwwhat bearable.. But anyways, I only have a high school education, but know the value of ambition and more importantly the gift of having a spirit to constantly improve because you know down inside that the best way to help others is to first make sure you can keep yourself up and afloat, and agree with paying into the system and if you live in NYS, that is the best example of how liberal policies and social engineering drip by drip, chip away at the human Spirit, and that is by design.I dont need any tv commentator to tell me what I live and see everyday for myself...I think some can be poor in HUMAN Spirit and think that it can be forced out of others, but thats the irony, you can put people into shackles but not that spirit and think this is going to be intresting times and this is the new tug of war.

I have done the real life experiment. In my life, whenever I was down and out so to speak, everyone comes around saying OOOOhhhh were so SSSOOOOORRRRY and ACT all concerned and treat you with empathy. But then go ahead and pull yourself out of a hole and hit on something that bring you success and then WATCH ALL THE VULTURES they turn into. All of a sudden, theres no empathy, just jealousy. Now all of a sudden your not down trodden and vulnerable and everyones attitude changes like now, they CANT WAIT for you to fall on your face...Its really all pretty insane but fascinating to whatch all the roadblocks people and government will try to place in your way while your fasttracking with some success. Then after you have some success for awhile, you head the other way, fall on hard times and then here they all come again OOOOOhhhhhh were soooooo SORRY! Is there anything we can do now that your POOR!!!! Well FUCK, I dont need your words now,, It was actually more important to me to have some words of support when times are good. I contend its more important to feel support when your at your best so you keep from putting your HEAD IN YOUR ASS, it means nothing after the fact, and the " sorrys" is just the libs way of gloating.

My comments in this thread are predicated on 2 things. First, not everyone is as fortunate as you and I, and capitalism rewards many things - one of which is good fortune. Dumb luck. So people are going to be left behind no matter how hard they may try. That's just a fact.
Secondly, unless you want store clerks and waitresses making $20/hr, then capitalism absolutely requires there to be not only working poor, but also un-working poor. So slice it however you want, inject everyone with copious amounts of drive and ambition, and you're still going to have poor people. Oh, and i also accept the fact that i benefit from there being poor people. Without poor people below me, then i'm one of 'em.
So allow yourself to be in denial all you want, but poor people are going to exist.....in large part because we want it that way. We even need it that way. And so i feel a moral obligation to account for the fact that we as a society insist they exist, so we as a society should assist them in ways where we can.
Just what part of that do you find disgusting about me?
And by the way, people who don't know how to properly use quotes are annoying.

Is DF quoting the communist Manifesto again?! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! That's just a fact [according to Marx]! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!
No other economic system has done more for poor people than capitalism....IN FACT, capitalism is the only thing that has ever helped the poor....without capitalism, most people live in squalor and hunger....

This is exactly why an elected official is your Commander in Chief, so we can all have a say in who is Boss

WTF is wrong with you military type?
Do you all think you deserve your ass kissed for applying for a job in the military? That is all it is. You are just one part of a whole. Without the taxpayers, you would not have a job. The trash man is just as important as the most decorated General. Your education DFW was brought to you by a socialist educational system. The military is paid for in a socialist manner. The government takes from folks to hire folks like you. You in effect are just another special intrest group. You may not like hearing it but it is a fact. If we delt more in reality , you would be way less hostile because you would finally see that you are no different than that so called soccialist that you so despise.
Who is the boss
When the body was first made, all the parts wanted to be the boss.
The brain said, "since I control everything and do all the thinking, I should be the boss."
The feet said, "since I carry man where he wants to go and get him in position to do what the brain wants, then I should be the boss."
The hands said, "since I must do all the work and earn all the money to keep the rest of you going, I should be the boss."
And so it went with the eyes, the heart, the lungs, and all the other parts of the body, each giving the reason why they should be the boss.
Finally, the asshole spoke up and said it was going to be the boss.
All the other parts laughed and laughed at the idea of the asshole being the boss. The asshole got so angry that he blocked himself off and refused to function.
Soon the brain was feverish and could barely think, the feet felt like lead weights and was almost too weak to drag the body anywhere, the eyes grew bleary, and the hands hung useless at the sides. All pleaded with the brain to let the asshole be declared the boss.

Jonballs, each state has it's own definition of poverty by establishing a poverty level. Here in pennsylvania, I believe it is anyone earning under 7k(?) a year.

the poor
when i had no money, i wasn't poor, i was a rich guy with no money. that was my attitude.
the poor are people with give a shit attittudes, who dont try to improve themselves but use voting to try to get their daily bread, who know the ropes and exploit them.
people who try may have no money for a time, but they arent the perrenially poor, for effort will cure that condition most times and im in favor of helping them anyway along with the elderly, ill and children, but those seem to be very few in the grand scheme of things

You have a fight with your brother again over the weekend?
People who put their lives in danger want to believe they do so for a worthy cause....without military types, you would be working in a Ukrainian coal mine gulag and fighting Sergei off from his anal adventures.....

Next time you go to Walmart for the cheap prices, be sure to thank a poor person.
Then come here and spit on them for being poor.
