You have all of the access to forum rules and guidelines that we have. If you need help finding them, just ask.
So, like jokacz already pointed out there is a rule about "outing." That pretty much covers it for me. Here it is again:
"#5 - Outing or threats of outing are taken seriously. Membership here is anonymous and for the privacy of our members it will remain that way. That means any effort or attempt to connect a person's real world information to their username on this board will be dealt with swiftly and harshly. This includes real names, employment, medical info, addresses past or present, images, criminal or driving record, etc. We expect everyone who participates here to respect and go to great lengths to protect the anonymity and privacy of one another. Reckless disregard or accidental outing will also be taken very seriously."
Notice that the word "images"
IS used above. Now, IMHO, this does not mean that you cannot post an image of someone. But it better not be one that contains unique information that could be used to identify that person unless you have their permission. Probably the only exception here is if it was posted publicly somewhere else like their in their "Showcase" or on BP.
There is room for discretion and interpretation. And there is also common courtesy and respect. Quite often, the members on here do a GREAT job of self-policing this policy. I have seen many threads where members post pics and they are instantly questioned by other members about whether they have that person's permission. And if there is any question, it comes down. Fast. Often at the request of the original poster. Those of you with experience on this board know this to be true.
The Mods are not here to scrutinize every post and bounce it against all of the rules. We have to rely on you to let us know if there are potential problems. And many of you take this quite seriously and are a huge help to us with this kind of thing. 9 times out of 10, when you see a Mod take action in a post, it is because of something reported or suggested by a regular member. Because they care (and I am not being sarcastic).
Too much has probably been made of this. Again, those who know this board know that this is not much of a problem. The "recent events" that started all of this debate were pretty much unique. They are not likely to happen again (THANK GOD!).
