Advocacy of violence is distinct and different from threats of violence. Threats are indeed danger of imminent violence.

A couple of "copy cat" threats have been made, and those kids have been arrested. One kid said ,"just kidding around", when questioned. What they end up being charged with is yet to be seen.

If yelling fire in a theatre, knowing full well, there is no fire, is unprotected, maybe then we examine whether making fake death threats shouldn't be as well.

I will say that the argument about making guns illegal means only criminals will have guns... is stupid.

Drugs are illegal-- people still buy drugs-- we still prosecute those who buy drugs.

Rape is illegal-- rapists still rape-- we still prosecute those who rape.

Theft is illegal-- thieves still steal-- we still prosecute those who steal.


But guns... guns can't be outlawed... not for any logical reason but because.... criminals will still get them.



Now-- don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for weapons bans. But I'm saying-- gun proponents should stop using that ridiculous argument.

Hmm, logical blinders?

While it may not be a legit argument by itself (it's quite the appeal to emotion), it's definitely a strong statement that we should all keep in mind because it always follows the proposal of taking guns that can protect citizens away from lawful citizens.

So, it's not just saying that criminals will be criminals. It's pointing out that the ability to protect oneself will now lie only with the people who are willing to break the law, and, presumably, the same people who you would want to protect yourself from. Or, it will criminalize the good people with guns.

Either way, it's bad for society. (It obviously ignores outliers like this type of mass shooting.)
