satexasguy:

You seem quick to call out someone for supposedly not reading an article that apparently you did not read fully either. Nor am I guessing did you read all the posts on this thread as I pointed out a section at the end of the article (an amendment if you will) that contains information directly from Harry Reid. It says that they (the Democratic Party) are not discussing opt outs at all.

I noticed another article has been posted above as well that I will check out now as I am assuming it is also in support of this stance.

doesn't make much sense the staffers that cant afford ins would want to opt out of a plan that gave them an opportunity to have coverage does it ... there was no plan to opt out of anything.

I've learned not to put much stock in "what you understand".

Not true; Obamacare is the regulatory mechanism that will mandate insurance; re-write what every insurance plan must cover, regulate the entire insurance industry, regulate medical providers, medical device manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, the entire healthcare industry from top to bottom!

Obamacare isn't just the insurance exchange ! The insurance exchange is a small part of Obamacare.

Congress wanted to exempt their insurance plans from the regulatory requirements of Obamacare; the insurance exchange has NOTHING to do with the Democrats proposal to exempt lawmakers and their staff !!!!!!!!!!!

The exemptions being issued; have little to do with the insurance exchange and everything to do with the broader mandates (regulations) of Obamacare !

You Obama folks are confused.....years after Pelosi told us "you will have to read it to know what is in it," and you still don't know ?

the dems handed Grassley a political defeat .. plain and simple, just like Grassley is

aka out smarting the republicans

from the link I posted and apparently nobody read ..

Back during the Affordable Care Act negotiations, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) proposed an amendment forcing all members of Congress and all of their staffs to enter the exchanges. The purpose of the amendment was to embarrass the Democrats. But in a bit of jujitsu of which they were inordinately proud, Democrats instead embraced the amendment and added it to the law. Here’s the relevant text:
The only health plans that the Federal Government may make available to Members of Congress and congressional staff with respect to their service as a Member of Congress or congressional staff shall be health plans that are — (I) created under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act); or (II) offered through an Exchange established under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act).

figure that out Republitards

So you're in favor of taking away someone's right to choose which healthcare plan they participate in.

Noted.

Once again we have more spin by Whirlybird. It's true that with Obamacare the health insurance companies will not be able to deny you a policy because of a pre-existing condition (like high blood sugar). This is so that the people who are uninsured can obtain insurance. How many people keep $100,000 in their checking account for a one night stay in a hospital? The insurance companies can still set the price of the premimum. The medical device manufactures have to pay a tax, they are not being regulated. Only 10 percent of the population will be using Obamacare. If you work at a large company like AT&T or General Electric, will you get your health insurance where you work. If you work for a small company and that company chooses to pay a fine and not offer you health insurance, then you can go to the government exchange to obtain insurance instead of calling the 1-800 number of Blue Cross or Humana. The health insurance companies have been free all this time, and what do we have a system where 30 million Americans are uninsured. Health care does not fit into the Free Market model like automobiles or personal computers. You have unlimited demand for health care and limited supply. This results in sky high prices for a one night stay in a hospital for a minor procedure and thus totally unaffordable for someone who is uninsured. When the Emergency room treats a patient who cannot pay, they pass that cost on to paying customers. Sorry Whirlybird but the old system was broken and the COF remedy of finding a charity does not solve the problem for the 30 million who are uninsured.
