Years ago when they talked about the Alamodome, it was being sold as a convention center and it would have worked if the property once known as Alamo Iron Works (I do miss the lunch whistle) had been turned into a state of the art convention center complex with buildings of various sizes as it had very little room for expansion as a stadium and was limited to an oval shape instead of round because of the train tracks. That the best area would be near the Brooks AFB area outside Loop 410 and IH-37 where the land was plentiful and cheap and would have bypassed downtown traffic choke points and easily allowed for traffic from Austin, Dallas, Houston, Corpus Christi and the Rio Grande Valley. Where a really huge football stadium could be built with lots of parking and convention and hotel expansion, but people had stars in their eyes and sang songs about a dome, dome dome and the 50 yard line.
Only to hear Henry say years later that he "... never said San Antonio would get a football team."
Dumb, dumb, dumb.
