Meh, every state has it's own risks. I like it there, with the exception of the hottest months. Maybe go north for a few months when it's too hot.
Tradeoffs, I put a lot of time, effort and money into making my house in NY exactly the way I want it. I'm in a nice suburb and and nice quiet neighborhood that borders land marked as "forever wild".
However, the taxes are obscene. The town supervisor is a dolt and is only making it worse. I'm tired of long cold winters, etc.
I would consider doing the snowbird thing if the taxes weren't so high. I haven't decided on anything yet, but I'm going to spend one week in each area of Florida that I'm interested in. I plan on going for one week every three or four months. It will take a year or so to get to them all. I have family in the West Palm Beach area, so I'm hitting that first.

Because the long upstate winter is worse than the couple of very hot months. Sunny days on the beach and an air conditioner beats the hell out freezing my balls off. lol.

I'm staying at a condo in Boynton Beach. It's about 15 miles away from West Palm. The weather has been perfect so far. Today I'm going to check out Delray Beach. I've heard it one of the.nicer beaches in this area.
