No, talking to you pxmcc. My opinion after reading your story is that you made up a story from the bits and pieces of memory and then had to go to the internet for a chance to make it look like you know what you are talking about. It would have been easier to have just gone and looked at the gun and seen what it really is.

Don't need to see a picture of your gat no more than you need to see a picture of me with one of my Ruger 10/22s. (They do make a pistol version, however it's not a gun that is easily carried on ones hip, good in a backpack though.)

so you're calling bs but are not interested in any kind of follow up. makes perfect sense to me..

btw, just had a brain fart. what are you calling bs on again, exactly? that i own a ruger? that i risked my life over a pair of glasses? that i'ma crazy fuck? that i had a 22 in my left pocket and bear spray in my right while attempting to recover my 1g glasses? that for my age, i've fucked more chicks-mostly ebonies- than 99.9% of my age matched cohorts? that i"ve popped more ebony booty cherries than probably any white man in america? that i got into a one handed brawl with a pimp that i came up on the short end of the stick on? that i paid for nothing except tips in vegas and walked away with 2300 of casino money this past new years? that i destroyed matriculating harvard med school students on the medical college admission test by 2 standard deviations? just let me know exactly what you're calling bs on, just for posterity and whatnot and what have you, you know..

and just for the sake of symmetry, i call bs on pretty much anything you've ever written-except that you're old, which i believe-but i'm not really interested in any facts you may have to offer supporting your "incredible stories." nothing personal against you though, you know, just business..

back on topic: when will we wake up and enact sensible gun laws? how many more people have to die? 1? 10? 100? 1000? 1000000? are human lives worth nothing?

I'm not aware of any Ruger MK that is capable of cycling anything but .22LR. I own an MK II.
In fact, I'm not aware of any .22 Semi auto, rifle or pistol, that can cycle longs or shorts. I have several. The only rifle I have that will handle any .22 ammo s, l or lr is a 100 yr old Remington model 12-A pump.

I own a 70's model Speedmaster. Cycles subsonics and shorts flawlessly.
Very accurate.

I wasn't aware that the speedmaster could handle shorts. That's pretty cool.

We have a Rossi, a modern reproduction of those gallery rifles. Ours is at least 15 years old and seems to be a lot higher quality than the ones produced today. It also shoots shorts, longs, or long rifles. Neat feature is it is like some of the old shotguns, you pull and hold the trigger, it will fire as soon as a round is chambered. Makes for some fast fire on the range.

If you want to shoot .22 shorts out of your 10/22 Volquartsen makes a conversion kit, bolt, springs and a new magazine.

Fun fact, there are many options in purchasing that style of rifle these days, from 80% kits, to other brands that interchange parts with the Ruger. Almost as easy to assemble one from parts as an AR.

Common sense gun laws is code for control. We need better control over the criminals, not the honest folk in this country. New gun laws only hurt the good citizens, criminals ignore them. The inherent racism in the control laws of the past half century is reason enough to kick them to the curb. However we know how the left likes to keep its people under their thumb and on the plantation.

i'm learning a lot from this thread. but.. "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.."

ok lemme go ahead and stipulate that there is a 99% chance that Boardman is perfectly correct and less than a 1% chance that i have even the foggiest notion, but having said that..

is there even a single person in this thread who would agree with me that for home defense, a 9mm glock semiauto with a 10 round "magazine" or a 12 gauge-i personally love the street sweepers cause i get 5 more tries after my first (predictable) miss by at least 5 feet-are better options than the AR-15 for home defense?

the downsides imo for the AR-15 are that it's as awkward as the 12 gauge without anything near the 12 gauge's "pretty close is close enough" aspect for a shitty shooter such as myself, and that my errant ar-15 slug goes through 2 layers of sheetrock in my home before going on to leave a nice hole in my neighbor's living room wall..

finally, if i'm a gun enthusiast, i want to be on the front lines of gun policy. let me (meaning you) educate the sorry-as-fuck clueless clowns such as myself about the difference between weapons of war such as the ar-15 with a banana "magazine" versus say a 9mm glock with a 10 round magazine for home defense (or a 30 odd six for deer hunting.) if you make the proposal instead of a Communist pig such as myself, you get to write the first draft of the rules, which is a thing..

since neither i nor my communist colleagues have a clue, more likely than not, me and my fellow communists will try your proposal on for size and see if it reduces the periodic slaughter..

otherwise, you get communist clowns such as myself writing gun policy; who in their right mind would think that won't totally suck..

would not wanna be caught up in the business end of that bad mofo if i could help it..

Unless he did the conversion prior to 1986, and got the paperwork to show it, it is illegal. No new machine guns (or parts to make a semi into one) have been allowed legally for civilians in the past 35 years.

It's only a 10 year and $100K fine if he is caught with an illegal machine gun.

I did not know they sent Navy pilots to sniper school. Interesting.................

First pxmcc, if you have a G-17, G-19, G-34 or G-45 put those 10 rounders in a drawer and forget about them.

Go buy some normal capacity magazines, not those restricted ones. The 15 round magazine is standard for the G-19. If it's a G-17, it will hold a couple more. Good news is G-17 magazines fit into the G-19. You can also find those that hold more.

If you have a G-26, G-43 or G-48 you are stuck with limited capacity, go buy more magazines and practice magazine changes.

Regarding an AR being awkward, not if you choose wisely. A rifle can be shorter than a shotgun which helps it in tight quarters. If you choose an AR pistol, or possibly one with a brace on it, they can get quite compact. Plenty of this board have SBRs and AR pistols that are set up as PDWs, (Personal Defensive Weapon).

Don't be afraid to go to a local gun show and look around.

Follow some of the better youtube personalities to learn more. I would suggest Colion Noir for his content.

holy crap russ. no damn way imma hit u up for a garden variety robbery. you have one of them signs that says trespassers have a 99.9% chance of imminent death, and less than a .1% chance of advancing to the next round..

O'Mike is right about compact ARs so I won't go into that other than to say a legally sawed off shotgun must have a barrel length of 18.5 inches. By comparison the AR15 civilian carbine has a 16" barrel. The M4 has a 14.5" barrel but below 16" you're getting into SBR territory as previously described.

A shotgun can be a decent home defense weapon when properly configured. I prefer a pump over autos for reliability especially if you load different rounds as some do. Proper configuration can be tricky where you have it short enough to maneuver but still have sufficient ammo capacity. Usually 5 rounds, 6 at the most.

Again...Energy is equal to mass x velocity. The energy of a 55g round(not a slug) traveling at 3200fps(less velocity with even shorter barrel lengths) is quickly dissipated with the first layer of anything of substance because the bullet doesn't have enough weight to retain the energy like a 147g 9mm or a 230g .45acp.

Bottom line...Over penetration is less of a concern on a hit or a miss with an AR15 than it is for either common handgun or shotgun rounds(buckshot or slugs). The AR 15 is far less likely to make a hole in your neighbor's living room wall. Don't take my word for it. The FBI has conducted numerous studies so have independent labs and individual bloggers from all over. I won't cite any particular study. Google it and pick the ones you want. Something like "AR15 home defense" or "AR15 over penetration".
