Thanks Essence.

Essence's argument is to say that because both parties have some corrupt members, there's no difference between them. That's a specious argument. That's like equating Charles Manson and Mother Teresa because neither one is perfect. The difference may only be in degree, but it is real and it does matter.

I'm not going to waste too much time, but on a quick calculation of recent cases:
- state and local politicans convicted since 2010, 19 (D) and 10 (R)
- federal politicians convicted since 2001, 4(D) and 9 (R)
No reputable statistician would use those figures to promote a hypothesis than any one party was better or worse than the other. Which is my main point.

I agree entirely. I would add 'the misuse of probability'.
But it is not the bare facts which are a lie, it is the misapplication of a crude statistical analysis to promote certain untruths which is the problem.
As I say, you canlt conclude anything from the facts I presented other than people of all persuasions get themselves into difficulties.
Funnily enough, I struggle to find any mention of Texan politicians. What a wonderful state! Warm in January, and incorruptible. I think the raw data needs re-examining, there seems to be an outlier.

Figures don't lie but liars figure. Texas is God's country. We're pretty much perfect down here except for Austin which is infested with liberals. After we secede we'll deport all the liberals to Massachusetts or maybe Cuba.

How many republicans stay in office after a scandal or conviction versus democratic politicians. Both parties have assholes but it seems the democrats keep theirs around.

Obama attended a racist hate cult "church" that had a raving lunatic pastor for twenty years. If a white conservative Republican had gone to a racist church he would have been thrown out of the party, not elected president.

Right Laz.
The point of my OP....the Democrats elect (and re-elect) violent criminals to office, applaud those who are censured, and otherwise tolerate the intolerable....
The GOP, flushes the filth once they are exposed. The Democrats embrace their thug compatriots.

Sam Donaldson, a liberal Democrat, predicted that Clinton would resign in matter of days after the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke. Not only did he not resign in shame, he stayed in office, and today is a rock star in the party. The Democrat Party is a sewer.

The Clinton=Carville playbook is to go on the attack, destroy those who accuse you, even if you are guilty.....
It is why I can't blame Lance Armstrong; he was following the Clinton playbook.
Remember how Clinton attacked Lewinsky, Starr, Tripp, et al..........even though Clinton was guilty as charged !
Democrats have no shame; they tolerate any behavior, no matter how deviant if it plays to their advantage..
They will re=elect convicted felons as legislators !

I am in no doubt that any reputable political party should rid itself of these kind of scum. Why they haven't already is beyond my comprehension.
I think the difference is between the tactics and organisation of a party versus the prime beliefs and strategy. You can believe in a republican/democratic agenda whilst embarrassed by the behaviours of the republican/democatric party and representatives.
Debate.

Talk about sewer. Remember Jerry Studds of Massachusetts? He admitted that he was diddling young congressional pages, male congressional pages. He was a child molester! Not only did the democrats not kick him out but they had a photo op on the steps of the capital building to support him. He got away with it because DC law specificially says that statutory rape involves a young "woman". There was not law against having sex with underage boys.
As for other scandal, why only go back to 2001? You need to go back to ABSCAM, Wilbur Mills, the House post office scandal, and the check kiting scandal.
