I agree that nutjobs are the problem. However, I don't agree that we should give them ready access to tools that make their rampages easier and more effective. The sheer number of firearms we have in this country makes it easy for the crazies to go out and get one.

A second point unrelated to the OP is that the amount of successful suicides (at least in the US) would also be greatly lessened by having no guns around. Studies show that most suicides usually have an immediate regret as soon as they attempt it. Guns are simply so lethal that suicides involving guns are much more successful (as defined as killing oneself) than in the cases of cutting or swallowing pills/poisons.
