My driveway is 100 yds long. .308 is the second line of defense. I am looking at an Armalyte .50 to stop people and vehicles.

Are you expecting an attack on your home?

A 50 cal will destroy an engine. Would it turn a vehicle into a fire ball ..only in the movies. I want more fire power than a bolt action rifle. At about $3 a round, you will quickly lose interest in shooting it unless you reload and then it is still expensive.

A 308 will also successfully disable an engine block. As far as home defense goes it's hard to beat a tactical setup 12 ga pump with home defense ammo. The kind with the ceramic discs as well as BB shot does impressive damage in a tight pattern. I picked up a Western Auto (mossberg 300) awhile back for $125 already equipped with a m4 style stock and beavertail forend. Simple construction, dead nuts reliability.

I enjoy long range shooting. If a unannounced vehicle is coming down the drive....the 50 will stop them. Maybe not the round but the muzzle flash and percussion will tell them to stop.
If I am protecting the house....AR's in 308. Throw a lot of lead while the are out away from the house.

I would rather end the situation at the fence versus on the porch.

When I lived in Dallas I had a 9mm with Glazer safety slugs as they did not go through walls very well. 1/4 inch penetration and athen the energy is dispersed laterally. Very nasty round.

The shot guns are for garden defense against rabbits. Can't wait for silencer!

Rabbits??

In Vietnam, I carried an Ithica 12 gauge pump with a duckbill spreader. I also had a CAR15 with a thumper. We ran patrols into the A Shau which is dense jungle. Discovered, we would be less than 20 feet away. A scoped weapon would be worthless.

Now, there are shotguns that can fire 20+ shells.

I have my granddad's Belgian browning humpback 12 and my dad's Stevens 20 side by side. Something about shooting guns passed down thru the generations that can't be beat.

My great grandfather's (who passed before I was born), my grandpa's and my dad's guns are something I treasure most of all my possessions. I will never part with them until the day comes when I give them to my son. Whenever we get them out to clean and oil them, I can see in his eye and by the way he holds them that he understands just what he's holding. They are not just some old guns..... they are so much more then that. And he gets it. And I know he will treasure them just as I do. They will be in goods hands.

I totally agree. There are so many memories tied up in each of the guns passed down to me. Every nick or scratch in the stock brings back memories. I have started my girls shooting the same 22 that I, my dad and granddad all learned to shoot on. They think it's cool that they're able to hold something that their great grandfather held when he was their age.
