Because in reality, it's obvious the main OP publication and underlying article author are liberals. It's so disjointed with "he said, she said", with additional random interpretations of the "he said, she said" as to be laughable and almost unreadable.

And I think for the actual why, your notion of shock value might be the closest you or the author got the actual reality.

The martyrdom claims are sheer and utter projection of the left. The whole concept of this and many other "events" are not about diversity or knowledge, they are about continuing the "victim" claims of a very small subset of the population. I'm not going back to re-read the drivel of the original quoted article, but I remember seeing some reference to the LGBTQ community holding all the cards. Yes, that's because of their victim and martyr mentality as well as the PC culture that is trying to destroy America.
