I believe you hit the nail on the head. There are a number of women who advertise that they're curvy or voluptuous and they don't come remotely close to looking like your examples. They might not be full fledged BBW's, but their descriptions of themselves or in their reviews aren't always accurate.

We all like different things and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so go for whatever turns you on

I think the progression of the terms is something like this:

Holocaust anorexic
Emaciated
Skinny
Slim & trim
Toned
Ripped (We can see your veins)
Athletic (bigger muscles than ripped)
Curvy (athletic but a little softer)
Voluptuous (curvy on steroids, a la Joan from Mad Men)
BBW (like Oprah)
Jabba the Hut
Mt. Vesuvius

All of the girls here fall between Slim & Trim and BBW IMO. Girls, if you're outside of that, time to get help. Alyssa, I think you fall in between the athletic and curvy categories but I will have to find out for myself, haha...

I wonder if Alyssa was getting as frustrated with the lack of real answers as I was until I got to the link by Bubba and some others that followed, including the pictural one which was good. Hope that my definitions help/add to the discussion:

1) Athletic: Describes the body of a woman who is fit, obviously works-out and watches what she eats. Some muscle tone present. A "Dancer" body can also be included in this category, but usually the musles are not as developed.

2) Hard Body: This is a subset of Athletic...includes all of the above, but with more muscle AND muscle tone, or "cut".

The above two categories, especially if MM's are added, are by far my personal favorite.

3) Curvy, Voluptuous: To me, these two are the same category. Behavioral Scientiests and Physical Anthropologists have done extensive research on the male response to the visual contrasts in the female form. In others words, guys like a woman with curves, the "hour glass" figure, that goes out at the bust line, in significanly at the waist, then back out again at the hips. So a "curvy, voluptuous" lady has maintained that proportion of contrast even has she has put on pounds. While it is not obvious that they ever workout, the curves are still relatively tight and LACK the cottage cheese effect. Many men do like this category and I do too. Think Marilyn Monroe and Sohpia Loren.

4) BBW: Sorry, but this is just plain fat and over-weight. Someone above hit it right - they are telling the world "I'm fat. Deal with it". No hour glass here. More like a barrel.

My only issue on this subject is when an advertiser claims one of these body types and clearly is not, i.e. claims to be Curvy, but really is fat. Or, when a provider posts pics of years long past when she was cut and toned but no longer is.

Finally, I left out spinner (enough has been said on this category in other posts) and skin-and-bones.
