I am a Seahawks fan and I have watched a replay of this at least 30 times. I think everyone can agree the play call was bad but I also think Wilson's throw was bad as well. Watch it again and look where the ball was, it was too high and too much out in front of the receiver. The receiver had to stretch way out in front of himself. If Wilson had thrown it sooner and put it right into the receiver stomach then there was no way the defender could have intercepted it. That was bad accuracy for such a short pass. I do agree that it was partly the receivers fault, his move inside was much too slow and weak. A very Un-Dez like move.

Also the defender completely gambled and sold out on the inside move. If the receiver had jab steeped to the inside and then gone back outside he would have been wide open.

Thank's to the Seahawks a below average defensive back is going to Disney World.

Yes, I agree the receiver was weak on the play. However, I think the cornerback read the "rub" play and perhaps he was coached to break on it. If Brady were the QB, though, he would have put it where only his receiver could have got it, but might not have scored on the play, requiring that last precious timeout to be called. Then, you really have to pass it into the end zone.
When you think about it, the call makes sense because the smart thing to do is run in that situation, then pass on third after calling a timeout. Making the wrong move at the right time...but it wasn't so much being a bad call as the other guy made a history making play.

I actually don't believe it was that bad of a play call.with 26 sec left and only 1 timeout you gotta throw it once.not enough time for 3 run plays.now personally I would have thrown a jump ball to the Matthews kid who is all of 6'5 but this is only a bad call because it didn't work and the worst possible outcome was the result. Defensive players get paid too and the kid made a fantastic play.stop focusing on how bad the play call was and focus more on how great of a play butler made.cause I don't even think Revis would have made that play.but a rookie who doesn't know any better and chose to gamble instead of play it smart and safe which most would have done got a huge payoff

There's incredible video footage available on line now from someone taping the play from the sidelines of that part of the end zone (the side of the field where the two Seattle receivers and Patriot's DB's lined up).

It appears Butler even wasn't looking into the backfield (at Wilson); he had his eyes squarely on Lockett's feet. At the snap of the ball, Butler recognized the slant / rub play was on and broke immediately on the play ("gambling" perhaps as to where Wilson was throwing the ball....but great coaching and intense film study had him totally prepared for this and he responded without hesitation). Once Wilson committed to throwing the pass, Butler's instincts kicked in and the interception was his...by scant tenths of a second. No doubt it goes down as one of the Top 10 plays ever in Super Bowl history....forever.

They had three plays 26 seconds and only one time out so they were going to have to pass on one of those plays in order to stop the clock if they didn't score. The biggest point is not the decision to pass but the PLAY they called. It should have been a quarterback read option, faking it to Lynch and letting Wilson scramble to pass or run it in. The next play could have been an eye formation handoff to Lynch off tackle and then take a time out if needed. Then the last play could have been another quarterback read option going the other direction.
Seattle's did not use their best options.

I heard a sports reporter describe the play as a major league pitcher giving up a World Series winning home run on his third best pitch. If you loose with your first best pitch fine so be it , but whatever you do don't get beat with anything less than your best.

Seahawks's had a chance to win BACK TO BACK ,Pete Carroll could have turned himself into a legend in Seattle but now he will always be remembered as the coach that made the worst call ever in the history of the Super Bowl.
Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

This is just eating you up. Let it go. Release it like a built up fart. The smell dissipates quickly once you fart.

Let him get it out of his system (by writing about it), pyramider. I totally get his rage / frustration. I still feel the same way about the over-turned Dez catch. When your fave team gets so close....and the game turns on one play.....damn, it just kills ya.
