Weeded flower beds for 50cents and mowed yards for three bucks. I hustled as many yards as I could till I had so many I had to get a partner. Paper route was the worst job ever and the only one that made money was the distributor which taught me to keep really good records so he had a harder time fucking me out of my money.
Second hand and homemade clothes were what I got to wear.
No A/C but we did have a couple of fans.
I will never forget when we finally got a window unit for the living room.
I guess some people would call that "white Privilege" but to me it was just a way to survive when your parents did not have the money to take care of the wants and could barely take care of the needs..

LOL! I've been there, right down to the paper route! I still remember fans all over, and the day we got our first wall unit. I can see it now!

We would stand in front of the AC just before bedtime and then run and jump in bed and hope we fell asleep before we started sweating.
Hey Mike the inbred chimp, why would I want to put a lie in a true story?
Yes I did walk to and from school but it was neither 5 miles or uphill both ways.
Not many hills in Houston. You should check your geography out a little better.

Aren't you the sensitive one. You wearing your little feelings on your sleeve? Nah, that would require you wearing a shirt that had them.
I walked or rode the bike to school until I was old enough to buy my first car.
Collected a lot of empty soda bottles from construction sites.
Redeemed them at the grocery store, on the right side of the "Whites Only" drinking fountain.
Must make you nostalgic, JL.

Oh I know the joke but it generally was associated with exaggerating the truth.
You know like if you were to say you got all A's on your report cards.............
You would be talking about Absent.........

That sounds both racist and homophobic.
