A few years ago, I attempted to barter services with an auto mechanic. I needed a radiator replaced, in less than a month, the new radiator was leaking faster then I could put water in. I found out that the radiator was not securely placed in the rubber grommets and the fan blade sliced the radiator. I still have the radiator in my attic, other than the big gash it still looks brand new. The guy that did the work did not honor the shoddy workmanship, but he damn sure got what he wanted.
Never again.

I've planned to trade for a tattoo but the guy stood me up. I'm still looking though.

I don't recommend bartering services. I've run my own business for many years and I used to barter a lot. About half the time it worked out, but the rest of the time one party always felt like they got a bad deal. I quit bartering a long time ago.
Just my 2 cents ...

To me, part of bartering is realizing that the swap won't be 100% equal most of the time. As long as both parties are receiving reasonably close exchanges, it should be OK. You're generally saving accounting costs and "taxable" income.

So, T-Dog,
Is there a way we can write off Hobbying on our taxes?
If so, Promise I won't barter for services
