They are expecting to close about 23 miles of I29 from Hwy 2 to near Rockport Missouri in 24-48 hours. Depends on how fast the water expands that far.

Has anyone been south on I29 and seen what the Pacific Junction area looks like? How much water is down there? I read that they're bagging the town and a lot of the BNSF tracks there (as well as elevating some of them) but it doesn't look like it's actually flooding there yet. Just wondered if anyone had seen what it was like with their own peepers.

I haven't been down that way. From what I've read, sounds like if the levee holds it won't be too bad, but most of those levees are only designed for 6-8 weeks of pressure. Sounds like they are thinking 3-4 months of pressure, but rainfall can change those predictions quite quickly.

They have officially closed I 29 from Hwy 2 south to Rockport Missouri. Just happened at 9 am on Wednesday June 15

Well crap!!

Now I need to map out a new way to get to KC. Damn snow, rain and the Corp for not releasing the water earlier.

Maybe this flood will get everyone's attention to the fact that the levee's in the US should all be updated.

One way would be to go south on 144th street, or I 80 west to the Sapp Brothers exit, head south on Hwy 50 to Hwy 2, then south on Hwy 75 into Kansas. Keeping an eye on roads open, you might be able to cross the Missouri on Hwy 136 and get back to I 29

136 is open - just head down 75 from Omaha and turn at Auburn, head over to 29 on 136 and glide into KC!

Main thing for people to remember is to check the roads before you leave. You never know if another levee might break, or heavy rain, or other problem could close one of the cross roads. Hwy 75 does turn into 4 lane some place, but I don't remember where down there now.

Oh Jackie, look what I just read in the Omaha paper about Hwy 136

"HAMBURG, Iowa - The Iowa and Missouri departments of transportation have now officially closed Interstate 29 from Exit 10 (Iowa 2) in Iowa to the U.S. 136 interchange (Exit 110) near Rock Port, Mo.

This is expected to be a long-term interstate closure, the agencies said.

The Missouri Department of Transportation, meanwhile, said there is a "significant backup" of traffic at the Brownville Bridge across the Missouri River on U.S. 136 due to the closure of I-29.

Drivers should expect delays of 30 minutes or more, the agency said Wednesday night.

The Brownville Bridge has been narrowed to one lane while repairs were being done, which has significantly impacted traffic. MoDOT said it is working with contractors to reopen the bridge to two-lane traffic as quickly as possible, but that may take a day or more."

So if you are in a hurry, might want to travel further south before heading east.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I was stuck in that fucking queue to cross that bridge for 35 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I left Omaha at 6:20PM today from the zoo, shot down 75 without a care or worry, it actually moved along at a good clip even accounting for some construction and a brief delay.

I got to Auburn, hung a left turn and headed for Missouri.

All was fine until that fucking bridge.

Oh.

My.

God.

I was in tears in frustration along with several hundred other drivers.

FINALLY the Nebraska State Patrol came to the rescue and manually controlled the bridge traffic instead of relying on the timed traffic control system of lights that are in place.

I actually showed the nice trooper my boobies as I was so happy to be finally able to cross out of his jurisdiction. He just smiled, and so did the other trooper that was on the Missouri side - LOL.

If they open the bridge to both lanes of traffic, it would have added only 20 minutes to the trip.

Wow!!! I'm surprised the trooper was able to concentrate after that, but he most definitely should have had a big smile on his face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope the road closing situation doesn't get too much worse, but I'm afraid it will.

Hwy 75 south to Kansas Hwy 36. Hwy 36 east into St. Joseph. This is the only way that I know of that is still open to So. I-29. I expect traffic to be a real bitch since it's the only way down. From Lincoln you could go Hwy 77 to Hwy 36 in Kansas or keep going all the way to I-70.

Looks like all of the Missouri River crossings are closed from Plattsmouth ( Hwy 34 ) and St Joseph MO. Hwy 36 goes across the Missouri River at St Joe, so basically you have to cross at St Joe or go up to Omaha to cross.

We had a pretty good area North and West of Omaha that got 2-3 inches of rain last night, and that all feeds into the Missouri below Omaha.
